Cammachmore Prow project has first ascent
January 31, 2008, 09:53:43 am
The impressive prow feature at Cammachmore (Aberdeen coast) has had a first ascent from local activist, Tim Rankin.  This is the stand up version so the SDS still awaits an ascent.  The sitter will be hard.  I'm sure Coolboy will be along later to fill in other details (eg grade).
Just continues to show that the NE of Scotland still has lines to be developed.

Good effort from Tim "I haven't been climbing much lately" Rankin. There's a great DWS line just there that needs doing too. It's not just NE Scotland, it's the whole of it.

As an aside, I found this article Tim wrote the other day;

http://www.transition-extreme.com/climb/hiddengems.htm

If anyone is at all interested in bouldering up here. Of most interest to me are pics of Craig Corn Arn, which I have been dismissive of in the past.

Nice. Good to have some Scottish news.

Agreed. It would be great to see more stuff from places other than Wales and Peak/Yorkshire. Keep posting them - they are appeciated!

Keen to hear more about Glen Nevis developments, for instance:

I'm told the prow is Optimus Prime, and is 7c from standing.

Is a good source for Scottish goings on. I posted links to it in the past, but no-one seemed very interested.

Cammachmore is well worth a visit if your in the area, quality rock and great lines, I got shown several good new 7's recently

Craig Corn Arn is good too Chris, will be baltic at the moment but there are some brilliant clean granite boulders there. Shame there's not a proper topo!

I think John Watson will have a big update on new Glen Nevis stuff in his new book which is out start march I think

Well done to Tim too!

The prow is a truly awe-inspiring line, the video clip doesn't really do it justice...

Have you done the lines you mentioned as potential DWS routes on the topo yet? Keen to have a crack at them in warmer weather. Once we get some warmth I am also keen to get up Craig Corn Arn. Email me your contact details again Tom?

Tim has now done the sit start to this problem

Quote from: Tim Rankin
Sent the SDS to Optimus Prime plus SDS to Megatron the big line just left.
Can think about something else now!

Nice one  :great:
I don't know what grade he reckons though.

Everyone has probably seen this already but

http://stonecountry.blogspot.com/2008/02/purple-patches-in-nevis-and-aberdeen.html

Optimus Prime was desperate even without a sitter! Will need someone strong to repeat it!

A wee clip of line to right of prow

which I think is called Dildo beach, named after some lovely jetsam found in the bay

That shows the line of the Prow much better, especially on the second problem.  Nice one.
