I always found this confusing. If I give my keys to someone to get something out the car do they also count as "in charge". Even if they have never driven before in their life. It could be a small child who wouldn't even be able to physically drive but they are now somehow considered "in charge" of the vehicle.

Always smacked of 'pub lore' to me, akin to the old chestnut about it being legal to urinate on your rear offside wheel.

If I was pissed and went to my car to get something out of it and was immediately nicked for being 'drunk in charge' you'd be contesting that all the way. Might be correct by the absolute letter of the law but in practice never going to happen.

I knew a guy that got done for sitting in the passenger seat, totally smashed. Just been dumped by his wife and was on a bender. No intention to drive, can't remember the story what he was doing in the car.

Probably happens rarely, but we've always been a bit careful in the campervan when parked up outside pubs.

I think you're completely underestimating the potential for someone to be petty/a pedant and cause you a totally avoidable headache (even if it does eventually go nowhere).

Valentines Day being extended to cover platonic and family relationships.

People on social media posting valentines wishes to their pets and babies, work colleagues putting “Happy Valentine’s Day!” in group emails like it’s Christmas, what the fuck?

How about this spam email from a marketing agency today?

Hey Tom,

We saw you from across the bar and wanted to offer you a review of your digital marketing on us - what do you say?

…..

Blah etc

So why not swipe right on this special opportunity? We’d love to have a chat to get to know a bit more about you.

Let’s call it a date!
From your Valentine,
Sarah

Right, this is a day when it's the god-given right of those of us who are chronically single, aromantic spectrum or whatever to seethe and feel embittered!   ;D

I do have ambivalent feelings about people trying to extend it, because on the one hand, it can be a bit wearisome feeling like "Ah yes, it's Mandatory Couplehood Celebration Day again."

And on the other hand, it's like "Here's a holiday for Romantic Love! Uh, and also this other stuff too, because friendship and having pets is kind of like romantic love apart from all the ways it isn't, so guess we'll shove that in here too". Just kind of patronizing to everyone.

On the whole, I'd rather go "Oh, it's Mandatory Couplehood Celebration Day, have a lovely time everyone who's doing it, not my thing and it doesn't have to be."

Apparently Saint Valentine is also the patron saint of beekeepers,  ‘mentally ill peoples’, against fainting, and plague as well as love, so maybe these things could also be brought into the equation… https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Valentine

Valentine’s Day should just be in full stop.

Unless we got a bank holiday. Then it can come out again.

We lived in Texas for one year in 1979. There, every child sent every child of the opposite sex in their class a Valentines card. So everyone got over a dozen Valentines cards. It all seemed very exotic to us as Brits.

I got a teams message from my partner the day before; "we aren't doing cards or any shit like that tomorrow are we?" It only made me love her more.

People who wear their climbing shoes into the bogs at the wall, trotting about in puddles of piss before going out to spread the accumulated excreta on the holds for everybody else to enjoy. Fuck off!

Vom. Our one says do not wear climbing shoes into the toilet at the exit of the wall and entrance to the bogs, but some people ignore it.

Could be worse, you could be trampling around in mud and shit the day before you go to the climbing wall...

Bouldering 'beta' videos where the climber is far too strong for the problem and flails around climbing it like absolute shit with crap beta but gets up it anyway on account of being far too strong. Not helpful!

Also, hideously jarring choices of backing music. The sound of wind and small grunts is fine mate.

Probably come up before but I'm only a recent convert to watching beta videos. Not sure why.

Funnily enough I was thinking this exact thing just a few days ago. I'm generally grumpy about underperforming comfort-zone dwelling wankers pissing up your projects as a warm-up anyway, but then simultaneously making a pig's arse of it whilst cruising it in a so-called "beta" video is even more bollox.

This was what got me thinking:

3:01 - a classic soft 7A completely butchered by an 8A boulderer with hilariously bad beta skipping half the holds and burling through because the guy has 6 grades in hand.

0:50 - the same classic soft 7A (hopefully optimised) by a 7A boulderer who had to get everything right because he's climbing at his limit.

People who link to specific boulders in YouTube without using the "start at specific time" option, causing me to spend countless minutes trying to figure out where in the fucking video it is.

In you go Fiend  :-*  the door's open....

Interesting. That seems to be a fault with the embedding on this forum, or at least on my post, because I did indeed use the "start at a specific time" option as can be seen if my post is quoted:

...soon.
