I saw this on facebook and instantly "liked" it ('cos I'm down with the cool kids). I then googled the new guy  :wall:

Not sure there's a lot to be excited about...  Like sniffing a marginally less odorous turd.  :shit:

The rain, poor weather in general and midges. All 3 currently ruining  my trip to the Peak!

The most redundant phrase in the world - the part in brackets has no purpose "I(m one of those people who)like shopping"

Someone who works with me says it all the time.

it's a way of making themselves feel like they belong to something - or in the case of something that is a fault (eg. liking shopping), that they are not the only person with the problem

a bit like having a soft toy to cuddle

Whilst we're on annoying phrasing, can we get rid of people saying "yourself" when they actually mean to simply say "you" or similar variation.

Often said when somebody is at work and they're desperately trying to make what their saying sound more professional/scientific/complex. E.g "that would be up to yourself" or "we need to get that information from yourselves"

Yeah, but, like, um, like, that song, wot goes, like, uh, "Express yourself", type, thingy; wouldn't, like, sound right, yuh know? Right?
"Express you".
Not, like, catchy, right?

Can you guess which habit of phrase annoys me?

Consequently, might I expand the 101 submission to include just about anything said by a teenager?

We may have had it before, and I know it verges on Grammar Nazism, but let's add the prolific misuse of "myself" in with "yourself".

I ask myself why people JUST DON'T GET IT!   :chair:

When I joined Doosan (then Mitsui Babcock) our HR manager was very West-Coast Scottish and addressed the 100+ graduates with "yous all"....   [cringe]

So-called humans in large art galleries. Pushing and barging to get to the front of a crowd waiting to see a famous painting, taking a selfie with it and then walking away WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE ART.

Or people who walk around a gallery and just take pictures of every piece of art they see and don't look at any pieces. I can only assume the twisted logic here is that they are pushed for time and will review the pictures later. WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO THIS? Why would you digitise something intricate and beautiful, changing the colours in the process, to then go and look at it later, when the analogue version is there to view right now. I don't care how good you think your Retina Display is, it is not as good as your in built retina display, i.e. YOUR OWN FUCKING EYEBALLS. And its only when you get up close to these things that you can pick out the fine detail and brushstrokes in the work. You can't do that at home later.

We queued for nearly two hours for the Uffizi (in low season, early in the morning). I don't expect it to be quiet, I don't want it all for myself, but if you do come in then have some fucking respect for the work and those other people around you. Remove all those disrespectful specimens from the gallery and it would have been relatively quiet and a blissful experience.

I remember the same in the louvre/mona lisa room with the staff shouting at people, to no effect, not to use cameras. (IMO) galleries especially prone to honeypotting and this sort photo frenzy could/should ban the taking of phones and cameras inside. Either don't bring them, or check them in at the entrance. It's the only way to impose some civility. They'd sell more postcards too.

Spanish galleries seem to be well behaved in comparison. If you start taking snaps inside the Palacio Real they make you delete them. Maybe it's a cultural thing.

First into R101 would be the American tourists who stood blithely waving their brochures millimetres away from the surface of the painting as they tried to recognise elements of Picasso's Minotauromaquia in the Reina Sofia:

In many galleries/museums there is an ebb and flow - e.g. if theres a 2 hour circuit (they normally fend people around a set route etc..) then theres a 'wave' of people going through this route generally a morning and post lunch surge.. if you miss this glut (which may contain a group of Noisy *insert nationality of your ire* school kids) then things can often be less brutal.

The Hermitage was one of the best for crowd control. A surly looking elderly russian lady in each room who would come and hover near you in a menacing way if she thought you were going to be trouble/touch pictures etc...

Selfies - selfie sticks.... yes - these are already well lodged in 101 I believe :)

Is that your photo Will?
You've gone to an art gallery and taken a photo of someone taking a photo of a painting?

The benefit of taking a camera to an art gallery is that..
A-you can prove that you've been there...essential for being seen as a cultured being.
B-you can use photoshop to give it that HDR effect. That shit's dope.
