"Leftists" No, not those of a socialist, fluffy, liberal and positive outward looking bent, but the fucking word. It's the fucking Brexit/Trump put-down of the century. Meaningless, puerile and far, far to self affirming for narrow minded, lightly disguised racist inbreds.

Is it any wonder that the planet is completely fucked when otherwise mentally competent people will sit in their parked cars, waiting for something, while the engine idles away pumping out toxic fumes into the atmosphere? FFS!

I fucking hate this. Don't accept that they're mentally competent though...

Sorry, I meant that they have mental capacity in the most basic sense. They can wash, dress, eat, etc. Presumably nothing more demanding.

I'll see you and raise you coach drivers who do this. Drop off passengers at an event, and sit in the coach with engine running so they can get some warm air. Total tossbags.

I've seen empty vehicles with engines running in the UK too. The temptation to get in and drive it straight into the nearest immovable object is very high.

The empty coach engine running is a daily fact at the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

There is seemingly no other possible metaphor in the English language for entering a contest than throwing one's hat into a ring.

Google tells me that the phrase originates in boxing. Hopefully the leadership contest will start with some sort of thunderdome style royal rumble.

Not only have the Conservatives rampantly cut public services during their term, they've also become incredibly economical with the number of verbs that they will use. All that's left is "delivering". They're delivering this, they're delivering that, it seems they do nothing but deliver. Occasionally, just occasionally, they focus, and when they focus it is always on delivering.

It is driving me fucking mental.

I don't even think the rampant overuse of this phrase is about driving home the message, I just think that the current PM is such a slow-witted public speaker that she can't vocalise her thoughts in a more diverse way.

My attempt at a joke was Nadine Dorries threw her ring into the hat.

I remember this being a quite entertaining discussion the first time around too.

One thing I didn't mention whilst being off-topically-buttfucked by the carbon fascists* was that the reason I mentioned having the engine on was partly because I once read that one of the distinctions to determine whether using a mobile phone was an offence was whether the engine was on (in control of a motor vehicle) or not (parked). I wondered if it worked the other way around, i.e. if an engine was on a vehicle was not technically parked and therefore wasn't a parking offence. Obviously entirely irrelevant and distant history now.

(* - this is crude humour btw, I'm obviously very good at all times, never sit idling any more, try to get a bigger MPG than MPH, etc etc polish the fucking halo)

I thought ‘in control’ was if your key was in the ignition, irrespective of the engine being on/off?

Surprisingly grey area....

If you have a campervan (or a car for that matter) and you're over the limit, keys in hand going to open your car you could be done for drink driving (as you are "in charge of the vehicle") and on the other side you have most modern cars not having an actual key slot! So when are you "in control"?

The offence is drunk in charge of... I believe (had this drilled into me by my traffic policeman Dad).
