Nothing like some g33k chat. I too went for a Q6600, also the G0 stepping. My other option was a q9450, which is the newer 45nm architecture, but it has a lower multiplier and is much more difficult to overclock. I've not seen anyone reach 4GHz on air cooling with a q9450, because of the FSB wall that exists at around 470MHz. Now, the Q9450 is slightly quicker clock for clock, and has a larger L2 cache, but price was also a function. I bought the Q6600 for £82, whereas a Q9450 would have cost me £210. It's just not worth the extra money in my opinion. I'm sure the Q6600 I have coming will do 3.6GHz once I've worked my magic (if not more) and that is enough for me at the moment. I only upgraded to try and reduce vegas render times since it's multithreaded!
Basically, the current 45nm intel processors are part of the tick cycle, but the real gain comes in the tock cycle, which we can expect later in the year. The q6600 G0 was part of the tock cycle which is clearly evident as it is without doubt the best overclocking quad core out there!
