Metcheck - Crag specific!!
November 15, 2007, 04:54:01 pm
Just come across this

http://metcheck.com/V40/UK/HOBBIES/climbing.asp

Just in case you need to know the weather at Base or at Peak at Egerton quarry, Roaches Skyline or Long Wall in Cheedale, Kyloe-in-the-woods, etc etc.

Shame its only a 2 day forecast, but still could save a wasted hours driving or so.

Maybe worth a sticky??

Personally I have found METCHECK to be one of the most unreliable weather forecasting sites (second worst only to http://uk.weather.com/ ).

Their Hobby specific forecast are pretty dire too.

i've found metcheck to be consistently the most accurate forecast overall for years. I can imagine its second only to a forecast from the big man himself, jesus H christ.

Its far more reliable than the tea leaf divination of the BBC / Metoffice! My dodgey knees a more acurate forecaster!

Its ok, but I use the Metoffice. There you can actually get a grasp on whats going on - better synoptics, meteosat plus the genius rainfall radar.

It might be OK down your way, but it's toss for Scotland.

All their hobby specific ones are just the normal forecast model, slighly tweaked in case you can't figure out the standard one. It does give surf forecasts for the Central Cairngorms though, which is quite handy.

I find Met Office to be much more reliable and MWIS to be very useful too.

Me too.  I used to think Metcheck was well more accurate than the Met Office or the ludicrously optimistic BBC, but in recent months Metcheck has turned into a profit of doom and gloom type forecast.  If you took Metcheck at their word you'd never leave the house, frequently they seem to forecast days of non-stop rain when in fact it's quite dry and sunny.  Met Office seem to be bang on the money lately.

:agree:  it's gotten way too pesimistic. I'm now a 'metoffice combined with the rain radar thingy on BBC' man; seems to give better idea of what the overall picture is.

I've found Metcheck to be pretty spot on in most cases. Worthy of a sticky.
