It's fun for a few hours - could use either bike there really. I managed to knacker my wrist there - 5 weeks and it's still shagged.

This is Matt riding there in complete darkness after a few bevvys:

Cheers Chris.

Anyone been to the Glentress freeride park?
If so, is it any good? More suited to a DH bike or hardtail?

I feel a trip coming on in the next week or so.
I've cycled past it, there are various routes down, you could probably do the easier bits on a hardtail, but loads of people were walking up with DH bikes. If you were going to 'tress with a hardtail I would recommend avoiding it though and hitting up the red trail for some fantastic fast flowing single track.

Looks like I'll end up taking both bikes if I aim to go to Mabie and Inners. Lots of potential for a good couple of days riding if its not too muddy.

btw don't attempt to do Inners without uplift unless you consider 1hr+ pushing up for 5mins downhill to be justifiable.

Most of the dedicated trail centres have good surfacing where needed, so never get that muddy. So consumer.

Following on from recent discussions with Fatdoc and Norton about biking summer holidays I've uploaded some taster pictures of Les Arcs to here.http://s534.photobucket.com/albums/ee345/TLR99/biking/Les%20Arcs/

Les Arcs has 2 distict types of riding; open rocky trails above the tree line and steeper tighter trails in the woods down to the valley.

I've spent two weeks out there, and rode about 350km of trails each week, with only a few kms that weren't downhill. God bless ski lifts.

I've an Austrain friend who rides a lot in the Alps, last year when home he sent me the picture below of the decent of one of the six mountains he'd ridden up ( :o ) and down (Sorry no action shots as he was out riding on his own)...

Personally I think I'd plump for the chair-lift option to get up.

Les Arcs does look splendid for singletrack descending. Is there fully monty DH there too?

There is a full on Morzine-esque downhill track, probably not quite as good as the Pleney DH.

It really is the tight technical singletrack that you go for. Some trails have hairpins too sharp for double crown forks to get round.

Its also so bloody quiet, not many walkers, and hardly any riders.

the stanes are good (the 5 ive ridden)- all quite contrasting.  Dalbeattie and kirroughtree are interesting as they are much flatter and tend to concentrate on technical singletrack with rocky obstacles.  The red at 'tress is more fun than the black.  Inners cross country is great.  The ae line is knackering.  Not a stane but drumlanrig is getting a serious reputation for being damn good.  super twisty and rootsy.  the park at glentress is fine on  a hardtail but i think you need to take a fair amount of talent with you.  there were little kids showing me up.

Is Dalby any good? I've heard it's too flat and a bit shite.

Wasn't actually riding yesterday  ;D   It did look pretty good though. I doubt it has the descents of some of the welsh/scottish centres but the singletrack is supposed to be pretty good (there's plenty of it). one for the xc boys. the black is supposed to be good.

Ah yes, but note the nice grassy landing so as not to scuff my delicate knees.

Couple of pictures from Sunday's foray up to the Yorkshire Dales. We did 50 or so kms in the autumnal sunshine from Settle over to Malham and then Kilnsey (and back...). Fantastic weather, but a cool breeze at times.

Tir, in your pics from Yorskhire Dales there is evidence of some moto-cross riders, I Thought the Yorkshire Dales had banned such activities or is that just a rumour (I'm sure fatdoc mentioned it to me).

Even if it is banned, unfortunately some people won't respect it  :(
