Sort of combining the topics Dead Fit birds who go climbing (part II) & Leg shavers anonymous, but achieving neither, he's Mrs Sharley on the only type of bike she's allowed to ride.

Why go all the way to the Alps and ride on a road full of tourists when you can do this?

Did this ad ever appear in the press does anyone know?

:jaw: Crikey!.  I'd shit myself if I was in that last photo.  Reminds me of nearly riding off the top of Cadair Idris this summer after an spd failure.

It looks safe but fun

Where abouts is Mabie? I've always wanted to find some North Shore stuff to ride, but failed miserably. Although Chicksands (I think) looks worth a trip.

What do you reckon about Wharncliffe today? Bit wet?

Mabie is a bit north and east of Carlisle - going to see some mates in Barrow this weekend so if i can persuade Ms Bubbs to ride we'll do the red route at Mabie together and then i can play on the north shore.

Chicksands is excellent, the other good shore is at Market Rasen believe it or not - really good fun.

I think Wharners will be a bog today - the place hasn't dried out enough after the winter yet - also, once the trees start going for it again they suck up a lot more moisture...

Cofe you got mail.

I've not been to any the 7 stanes trailes in the SW yet, but heard great things about Mabie. There is some lovely easy flowing Northshore on the Red circuit at Glentress. Had friends from Leeds meet us there last time we were down, they said it was an easy drive. Nice camping and B&Bs etc in Peebles.

Some good stuff at Wolftrax too (Laggan) but that is a long drive for you guys!

The dark side at Mabie is nails. It starts with a long climb up on shore which get down to only a foot wide. Then the track gets higher from the ground which is a combination of stumps and rocks. The descent is good although we found it very hard.
Heres a pic of one of the lower sections.

Theres also the kona drop at the end which looks good if you avoid hanging up or dropping to flat.
The red route is great though and if you've not been Ae is good too.

That looks good. I think I need to get up to the 7Stanes later on this year.

I'm going to brave the mud at Wharncliffe at about 1.30 if anyone fancys some DH stuff.

It does look nails - video of it here (right click and save, 28mb).

We've ridden with these guys and a couple of them are good riders.

The Darkside is brilliant. 2km of Northshore, with a few boulders, rock slabs and drops thrown in. All the narrow planks are low down and all the high stuff is wide. There are some very tricky bits though - I certainly couldn't ride all of it (a 90 degree right turn on top of a boulder springs to mind), but its fantastic fun to session.

You'd have to be very good to turn up and ride it all on sight.

The start of it is one of the harder/more intimidating bits - a 3 inch wide 10foot long plank over a stream, and its uphill so you have to pedal.

I think I will have to shop for a new bike (something with disc brakes and full suss) before I start thinking about that. And some leg armour too.

I think that sort of shore would be easier on a hardtail tbh. I'll be taking my Chameleon anyway...but disc brakes for sure.

Went to Mabie yesterday and concur that it is indeed nails. Amazing trail though. Some of the skinnies are very nasty and there were some really technical bits that I couldn't do at all - about halfway round my front wheel slipped off the shore bending my front disc horribly. Half an hour's abuse with sticks and rocks and I managed to bend it back to a reasonably flat shape which let me finish the route. I'm definitely going back. Some pics from my phone:

Bottom of the lower intro section

Start of the main section

Highest point of the main section

About halfway along the main section
