Word of caution for dog owners at Kyloe In
October 08, 2007, 11:38:34 am
Was walking out of Kyloe in yesterday and my dog probably got her leg caught in some kind of illegal snare. I say probably cos the injury was so horrific that we were in to much of a hurry to get her back to the car than to poke around and have a look. About half her back thigh, from the top to the knee, all the way round to the inner thigh was de gloved of flesh and was hanging off. It looks like it has been sliced with a razor at the first bit then horribly dragged off in the inner bit suggesting some kind of wire noose affair. She has been stiched back together and is ok but might have to have more treatment if the wounds dont heal properly.

Sorry to hear that, it must have been awful for you.  :(

Presumably you'll get in touch with the landowners?

I'm not usually one for snitching, but I'd be telling the coppers, and landowners.

Hope she gets better fella.

how off the beaten track was she?
'slim' says the scar up her inner thigh will be well-sexy though, and looks forward to checking this winter

shes does have an eye for the older man I have to say......

Not off the beaten track as such, just down the second track as you walk out(if you count the forks) and she must of only just been off the track cos she couldnt walk to much.
Only problem with trying to find the snares is that they get moved daily in some cases, highly illegal and frowned upon even in hunting circles. Rekon it was a badger one, notorious for scalping the badgers as they try to escape, luckily for Till she must of only got her leg in it.....

I thought rabbit snares on your own land were fine but you had to check them daily by law or something similar?

The principal law covering snares in England and Wales is the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

This law makes the use of self-locking snares illegal, and prevents people from using any snare to catch various protected mammals, including otters and badgers.

Theres also other stuff about not putting them next to public rights of ways (for the obvious reasons seen above) and other public or areas where domestic animals could be.
You right about having to check them daily if there legally set.

Jesus, thats gruesome. Was up there the other week, if I'd have known I would not have let mine of the lead, or thrown sticks into the woods whilst climbing.

I would be onto the land owners straight, RSPCA almost immediately once I'd settled down.

Would also like to think that any 'Countryman' setting such snares also works dogs and would be horrified by the injuries caused.

Hope the she recovers well.

Check this.............the Tillster almost ran a squirrel down this morning. She is back up to full speed and completely healed, she is the quick healing beast

the red patch in the middle is scar tissue from where she ripped 8 stitches out before we had realised she could reach the wound even with her plastic collar on. Dont ask about the vet fee's! Lucky were insured thats for sure!
