graffiti at Robin Hoods Stride (23rd)
July 23, 2003, 10:03:02 am
last month there was some painted (blue) graffiti at Robin Hoods Stride.

the date got sprayed in helvetica bold italic (probably H Neue 86 or 96 for the trainspotters). If any more turns up from last night I know who it is, but don't want to start a witch hunt just yet.

paint on the rock isn't exactly chipping, but it doesn't make for the stickiest of holds.

there was some stencilled stuff on that lone boulder with the tall B4 arete on during the winter - is it the same thing, like a date of some sort painted on?

think it was

23/06/03

or maybe 21st - was anyone there to see what went on?
There were two, one at the bottom of the 7c+ wall and one round to the right.

It has been there for at least a few months. Pat King and I spent 20 minutes scrubbing it back in march (I think) with vegetable brushes (natch) but didn't get it all off.

Anyone done the problem?

that's it.

23/06/03

I wasn't there, but I know who's responsible.

I won't mention any names unless any more turns up, but any new paint is likely to be added on the night of the 22nd of any month. If it does, post a message and I'll spill the beans.

Which wall is that? On the boulder with the B4 arete, and the B7 slab to the right?

What's the significance of the 23rd?

If there's any more then name and shame, and get photos if you can and they can be put up on here.

Was deffo there early this year, so the date doesn't refer to the date it was done. If you Know who's doing it, then spill the beans, I'll get my sack full of doorknobs out. Also inform the BMC, and the national trust/farmer whoever owns/manages the land.

what the 7c+ wall? Tried it in winter, got closeish, just need to be a bit more gnarly pushing into the undercut on the wall. Some lad i was trying it with did it though. Seems a bit of a gift at 7c+ if you don't mind me saying.

Please describe the 7c+ wall - where the hell is it? Is it in the guide or should I add it to the database?

I think it might have appeared in an OTE list as "Ben's Robin Hood Wall" (if thats what it was), those guys have a wild imagination.

felt pretty hard to me - though fairly height dependent.
Everyone I know who has done it has swapped hands on the gaston and then palmed with right to get feet up.
Unfortunately this puts your palm right next to the arete making it a bit of an eliminate.
I rocked left with right hand on gaston - much purer and no gift at 7c+.
Probably the hardest rockover I've done - even had to shut my eyes!

the way i was trying it (and the way this lad did it) was getting the little undercut thing high with left hand (after matching whatever getting stood in the break) left foot up on a smear, and right thumb/finger presing down in a little mono divot. you lever up, put right foot in the mono and go for top - then you're not using owt near the arete. I'll have it next time theres a cool snap.

If you're in a position to put yo right thumb in that mono you could easy grab the arete.

Jus' didn't feel pure to me....

nevermind all that crap.

if any more graff turns up, post a message and I'll mention names and motivations.

how about calling it 'Giant Robot Hand', I always fancied that as a name for a problem.

everyone needs a giant robot hand to take over the world.

all mad dictators have them as well as some evil criminals and arch enemies.

like the Ras Ta connection but I'm much more of a dub man myself. How about 'Tubby's Home Made Hi-Fi'?

fits in with that white boy/Peak District thing dontcha think?
