I can't beleive how big your boy is, Chris!  When did that happen?!  There is little or no point in having babies with hair if you don't give them funny hairdos.  8)

My dad used to spike mine up into a mohawk and take me to talk to the teenage punks who hung about in the local shopping centre.

I am also a complete convert to reusable nappies. Bum Genius to be precise.
I helped my friend get all the reusable nappy bits for her wee one recently, I can't believe how different they are to the old style reusable nappies, they seem much better than I would have thought from only ever experiencing the ones years ago.

Boy wonder, just turned 7, giving it ricicles on Leeds main wall.

Jim had to lift him to the start holds.

After seeing how my 8 year old son progressed in a week of snowboard lessons this winter - about as much as I did  in my first two seasons - I have pretty much abandoned hope of keeping up with him next winter.

With you there.

In the last couple of weeks he'd expressed an interest in leading.
As he's a bit of a blank slate I thought I'd teach him to clip like those pesky europeans due to hand size, although personally I'd always middlefinger the draw.
Its not how I normally clip, which actually helped, as I had to step by step the process beforehand.
First day he could clip with his left hand on a right facing gate, and vice versa.
Last week, when that was dialled in(clipping on a pure toprope) I showed him the reverse. First go up he'd got it, smooth as you like. Outrageous really, and better than me at it now(fronch-style).

He's clipping like Francois Legrand now.

real leading this week. <gulp>

My 6yr old daughter is leading well now and my Nephew (just turned 8 ) is leading 6a on the wall (pre-placed gear).
Can't wait to get them out to Portland over the summer.
Had my girl up there on Good Friday, but she bottled a 5 on the third clip (I placed the draws) so we top roped instead.
Biggest problem is hand size when clipping and a 5 can be more like a 7a if you're only 3' tall...

Don't let Nik hear that, he's full of it as it is.

It looks like Stallion Jr is aiming the "I disapprove of your driving" hand signal to various people in the room - something he learned in the car on the way to the wall?

Cool kid, he even has the feet-off-for-the-ladies move down to a T

She's improving.

Hands are too small to make a one handed clip, so I told her to hold the draw with the other hand.

But...

I caught her doing this.

She got the steps herself.

Do I encourage it or is it going to be too hard on her hands?

(RoSPA hat on)  I would discourage that, if a hand slips she's going back first onto the steps. Leading vid is great though.

Aye, the thought had occurred.

I was wondering about putting an old Fingerboard in reach?
I know Campusing has some detrimental effects for young hands. What about hangs and pull ups on edges?

Very little difference from kids doing gymnastics from what I can see.. might be interesting to find out from the Gymanstics organsiation (whatever its called) about reccomendations for training for kids at various ages? Of course avoiding crazy crimp/pullup stuff.. mind you small fingers on a small hold are like large fingers on a large hold!

Right, no names.
But, she was leading again tonight and we were twice accosted by the circling instructors/staff.

First time with "She shouldn't be doing that, she's much too young, we don't allow that here."

"Uh, she's been here once a week for the last 3 months doing this and normally the staff are watching and shouting out tips" I said. So she went to check with the manager.

Then another came along with "blah blah blah and she shouldn't be doing it in the first place and if I had children I wouldn't let them blah blah blah".

Leaving me with the certain feeling I was being accused of child abuse...

Which took some self control to keep the smile on my face and to refrain from staff abuse...

(coupled with the chagrin of being lectured by a couple of kids who even if they started climbing straight out of the crib cannot have been climbing half as long as the 32 years I have..)

I promise, I have never pushed the lass into doing this. She (6) and her Cousin (7) just insisted on trying it after watching everyone else at the wall.
Initially, I expected them to freak out on their first try and ditch the idea.
But they loved it.

Views please!

As long as children are well looked after, and controlled at the wall, I think it's a positive bringing them.

Children who are left alone while the parent goes off and climbs on their own, will run around, and get a 13 stone Drew landing on them, which could seriously injure me or them. Also, no Campussing <18 years old.

That sounds a bit negative, and it is slightly, because I get annoyed at the parents who ignore their kids. It might be ok in your own home, but not in public. In reality I am fully in favour.

Extra: And while i think about it (and having properly rereading your post), how old were Katy and Pete Whitwhit in the home movie bit of Grit Kids?
