Did anyone else feel a disturbance in the force this morning? Around, say, 1am?

Spill the beans! None of this cryptic "Dave climbed 8a, Chris says hi" nonsense!

As far am I'm aware, Andy is not a mormon (I could be wrong), so I'm not sure what his missus would think of this if it were the case.

Yes, indeed - it was me, or more accurately my daughter.

Una was born at 1am yesterday morning in what can only be called interesting circumstances.

My other half Fiona went into labour on Sat evening, on Sunday things were progressing well but contractions not really getting any more frequent or closer together.

We were waiting for what the hospital had told us, which was 3 in 10 minutes. Fiona was doing OK on her own, just using some breathing techniques to get through the pain, coupled with some not-very-dramatic moaning and groaning.

Just before 1am she got up to go to the loo - I could hear her getting through another contraction in the bathroom, followed by a slightly louder, sharper scream and then she shouted for me.

I don't think I can accurately describe what happened next as I don't really remember myself, but basically I stood there dumbfounded while she delivered our baby herself, in the bathroom, having had zero pain relief at all for the duration of labour (actually, she took some paracetamol on Sat night but promptly threw them back up) and with only me looking on.

Cue a hurried call to the hospital and then the very thankful arrival of an ambulance responder, then an ambulance and a couple of paramedics, and finally a couple of midwives. Everything was 100% fine, and within half an hour we were sat back in bed having a cuddle while Una fed with all the medical personnel sat downstairs in the lounge having a chat.

I should underline that we were definitely not planning a home birth, and most certainly not one that was unattended. I am very relieved that everything went OK, and as you can imagine am in awe of Fiona, who I now  is literally the hardest motherfucker I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

Apologies for not posting sooner - I'm sure you can appreciate that it's been a bit of a crazy couple of days both emotionally and practically!

Sounds intense!

Una is obviously starting how she means to go on... reigning chaos and lack of sleep on you both in equal measure. You go girl!

Congratulations  ;D
