There's only really two good problems in the Peak, and both of those are on the same boulder at Stanage (Careless Torque and Not To Be Taken away).

All the best quality grit bouldering is in Yorkshire. By the time you arrive there'll be a new guide out - I'd wait for that and base yourself in Leeds, or if you fancy some really wild nights out, Skipton!

You might find some folk on this forum would disagree with that assessment. Ignore them, they all run guest houses in the Peak and are just after your business. ;)

don't be fooled by all the tongue in cheek stuff said on here although Panton is quite right in some of what he says. There are some very good grit crags in yorkshire. Namely caley and earl.

Especially as this all seems wildly  :off: and absolutely nothing to do with pirate based memory games. I think you are all very unkind.

Christobal - Stay in Sheffield. The South East of the city is best for proximity to the crags (well and everything else actually). Climb in The Peak District. I think you will find plenty there to keep you occupied.

Christobal,

They're all being very mean. Come to Sheffield - if you are extremely lucky you will have awesome weather and many great places to choose from, it's not that difficult to get up to West Yorkshire etc.

In the much more likely event that it absolutely pisses it down, come to the biggest bouldering wall in the world!

Just as Jim is taking on a grammar policing role, I'd like to remind folk that geographically the best of gritstone can be found in Derbyshire and North Yorkshire (not 'Southern' or 'Westie' Yorkshire!) ::)

That's all well and good, but people are quick to forget Paul Nunn's wisdom:  'The best gritstone climbing in Derbyshire actually lies in Staffordshire.'

However my great great grandad, a long time devotee of Bosley Cloud's western flank, was often heard grumbling: 'The best gritstone climbing in Staffordshire actually lies in Cheshire.'

So where does that leave us?

Jim, Christobal said he liked, and I quote "By the way, the problems i prefer are 6 meters high, just under vertical with sharp crimps and/or almost non existant slopers". Which sums up Pex Hill. So why the fuck give me bad karma for answering the fucking question with a nigh on perfect answer. Apart from the fact it's not in the Peak (as was his request), is a hole in the ground and is in Merseyside it does as I said previously tick most of his boxes.  >:(

Blimey, don't take it so personally.
I recon bad karma was deserved because recomending anyone who's looking for a serious alternative to font to go to pex hill deserves it.
I think everyone who has been to both font and pex hill will agree.
Also despite having some good problems there (like most places do), Pex is just a shit hole in the ground as even you will admit.
Its fucking embarassing that you even consider your answer to be, and I quote "nigh on perfect".
We all love our local venues, but come on, get a grip
It only the interweb afterall
