I've set up a Flickr group that you can tag your bouldering pics with if you want them to be associated with the forum's group.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/ukbouldering/

Since this is now set up, i can say for sure there will never be a gallery hosted on this site again. Flickr does it so well there is really no point in setting up a hosted gallery, it's just a waste of effort and bandwidth.

I was never a big Flickr fan but have now seen the light and signed up for a pro account. For about £12 per year for totally unlimited photo hosting, it's an absolute bargain. I uploaded 2500 pics yesterday :)

The group is completely open access so all you need is a Flickr account, which is free for up to 100mb of photos.

Since i'm using Flickr as a backup of all the pics on my hard-drive, i've just dumped all my bouldering pics onto the new group, which means there will be a fair bit of shite there - i'll start being a bit more selective once i've fully organised the rest of my pics...

In the process of sorting some to upload.  Nothing sparkling so trim what you like.

Thanks folks :)

LL55, just go to the organizr, then batch organize, drag the pics you want to put in the group into the main window, then click "send to group" and that's it :)

Can I make an appeal for self quality control and that everything gets tagged with names etc properly? Most of the stuff up there already is ace, just don't know what I'm looking at some of the time.

Very sensible.  I'm only uplaoding 5% of my stuff, and I'll try to catalogue it as best as possible.  More to come.

Edit:  Plus I'm sure the admininstrator could prune anything too crap, non?

I'll be tagging about 20 a day or something, until they are all done. I have the pain of 2500 pics to tag up and organise

:dance1: Good work, nice selection there already.  Will bung a few more pics in.

For about £12 per year for totally unlimited photo hosting, it's an absolute bargain. I uploaded 2500 pics yesterday :)

Especially with the current exchange rate, going to extend my account today.

There are various apps out there for facilitating uploading of pics, and tagging etc.  Most are listed at flickr tools, and this may help facilitate the mass tagging of pictures.  One thats not mentioned (but is likely to be of limited interest) is flickrfs  which allows you to mount your flickr account as a virtual file system under *NIX systems.

Can I make an appeal for self quality control and that everything gets tagged with names etc properly? Most of the stuff up there already is ace, just don't know what I'm looking at some of the time.

Here, here, if people are really bothered then you can place them on a map from under the organizer (or from the pictures page itself).

Just a name and a grade would be OK to start?

I'm tagging something like this:

forumusername "secret garden" "peak district" "problem name" gritstone bouldering climbing

And changing the photo title to something meaningful.

I'll add grades later when i can find my copy of Ru's book!

I hear you brother. I would just like to say that I recently changed over to Suse and I think its brilliant. So, good knowledge on the mounting. Waddage on the way.

I did a bit more rooting around and came across another app from the same guy that would be useful if your using gnome, check out the Desktop Flickr Organizer.  If you use KDE then there's also kflickr (personally I use fluxbox, but with GTK installed so I'm playing around with the former).

Any good windows desktop organizers?

Couldn't say as I don't own any windows software, but some of these flickr tools might be useful (looked at but didn't use the cross-platform Java based one, but can't abide Java as its too clunky and slow).

OK motherstickers, I've added a few more of my duff pics to the melting pot.  There's some font stuff here (easy problems, before you get excited) which I've named as closely as I can to where they are.  If anyone knows better let me know and I'll change the info.
Cheers.
