Led Zep reunion
September 07, 2007, 01:10:24 pm
Apparently Led Zep are to perform one-off show in London in November. I won't be rushing for tickets but saw Robert Plant with his new band at Green Man festival two weeks ago and they were fucking great - about half the set was Led Zep numbers.

Well up for seeing Bonno raised from the dead!  Shazzam! Or as Doris Stokes would've said:  Is anybody thereeeeee??

This is not a good thing.  Bonham WAS Led Zeppelin.

I'm no fan of reunions but I'm not sure this one is so bad, saved mainly by the fact that its one-off - no mega world tour, no new material - in memory of Atlantic Record founder Ahmet Ertegun (as an aside at this point anyway interested in the music business MUST read 'Howling at the Moon' by Walter Yetnikoff). It'll depend on the spirit its played in, I can only say that when I saw Plant the other week he sounded like he was playing the Zep stuff because he wanted to rather than it was expected. Plus, everything was reworked to some extent and didn't sound like a poor pastiche. Bonham's son will be on drums.

Their live-aid reunion was a bit of a disaster but i'd love to see them practised and doing it because they want to do it. I've recently bought a copy of their "2003" dvd and it's just gobsmacking in places. I don't know what to say really - i'm not a big rock fan but i just love Led Zep :)

Just what you wanted FatDoc?

I'm not sure about this re-union.  I love Led Zeppelin, but I think the main strength was the way the band worked together and without John Bonham I can't look on them as the real Led Zeppelin.  Seems more like a Page/Plant gig, and although that would still be very good, Led Zep it ain't.

as my delightfull wife put it when Plant appeared on stage with his (other) new band at Ashton Court Festival...

"just play Stairway you cunt"

 :spank:

he wouldn't be doing Zep if his new stuff was selling (or even reaching a few people). which it isn't. so he is. poor lad  :greed:

Hmmm - Robert Plant's personal fortune was last year quoted at £65m. Led Zeppelin have sold over 200 million albums ;)

He's not doing anything because he needs money, that's for sure :)

65 million's not as nice as a round 70 though is it?
Maybe with Zep'07 on release sales figures will reach 210 million? In fact, fuck it, lets get a Mark Ronson mix on it and sell another 5 million on top of that.
Put it in a tin, with a picture of a stairway...leading to...heaven! Brilliant, they'll go at £100 a pop if we only do a couple thousand 'limited'.

Once it's gone, it's gone...sorry old fella, the spotlight will not fall on your tight young body and rockstar hair ever again. Stay quiet though and we will adore your youthfull image forever.  :kiss2:

 I don't know why it upsets me so much...too many fallen heros who didn't know when to stop, probably.

Wow, you bunch of cynics - they're doing one gig to remember a lifelong friend, and all profits made go to that friend's charities. The tickets will cost £125. If people pay over that then that's their problem, not the band's.

Still, more would be raised if the LedZep collective dipped into there own pockets.  Who is Ahmet to me?

Cynic?  Yup.

Why should they dip into their own pockets? It's a remembrance not a charity event, I just supect that they would feel bad profiting from a friend's remembrance in the same way most of us would.

Who cares anyway? If you don't like them then don't buy a ticket, it's not hurting anyone is it? They're not trying to ram some hypocritical mesage down our throats like that cunt Bono :)

Tis True.  I guess it just narks me (and a few others here) how (for whatever reason) these zombies are still walking.

"that cunt Bono"

Is that you darling?..

Maybe the cynicism was justified the moment they revealed the (jawdropping) news that this one-off (yeah, right) will coincide with an album launch!
Too predictable. Tooooooooo predictable.

On the spectrum of artistic credibility I'd say Led Zep have remained well on the respectable side of things. At least they didn't turn into some tedious globe trotting cash hoover like the Rolling Stones.

Robert Plant might not quite have the enduring credibility of some of his peers (Neil Young for example), but he always comes across in interviews as a genuinely passionate music fan and some of his recent solo material sounded pretty good to my ear.

Alll this talk of Led Zep has returned me to the 2003 DVD once again. I bought this about 2 months ago but i can't get beyond their 1970 Albert Hall performance...i just have to watch it over and over. Gobsmacking DVD remastered by the Page himself ;)
