I've recently enjoyed watching the "Stereo-Tonics" and "Oasish", two very good tribute bands.

They played stuff from there chosen tribute band, but did loads of other stuff as well. Check them out if your ever in Cumbria folks.

It was nice, enjoyable and a regular thing in my home town. Anybody else got a decent tribute band in their proximity?

I've only seen the Australian Pink Floyd. They do put on quite a good show and some pretty passable versions of most songs (only one I noticed them struggling on was the intro to Wish You Were Here). Highlight is hearing the female vocal from Great Gig in the Sky done live. Spine tingling.

someone at my work went to the tribute festival Glastonbudget this summer. Featuring bands such as Fake That, Antarctic Monkeys, Deffinetley Mightbe etc etc.

personally I think tribute bands are just a bit wack, especially if the actual band is still going, not dead or disbanded etc. I can understand people in their 50s wanting to see a Beatles tribute band, but most of them just seem to be cash-ins. Maybe that would be a good name for a Johnny Cash tribute act.

Tribute bands are wack Dave I agree. Apart from my Mince act, I can't think of any good ones. You'll have to catch a show some time.

I don't think I've ever purposefully been to see a tribute band - they've always struck me as a bit wierd when I've seen them by accident.  Especially when you see fans who've kind of kidded themselves into thinking they're watching the real thing - all very odd.

I imagine actually playing in one would be very strange indeed.
