As the title suggests I have ~ £500 to spend on a new laptop.  Does anyone have any suggestions or spotted any good deals whilst trawling the tinterweb?

If you can convince them that you are a business user, which should be easy enough then PCWB have some pretty good offers usually.  Got my acer 8204 when it first came out for £900 which was worth around £1750.

TBH, we have had really bad problems with an Acer with vista loaded on it 

I personally wouldn't touch one with a barge pole

We ended up taking it back and spending a few more pennies and getting a vaio

do nt bother, i hade mine replaced twice in as matter as months, then i opted for a sony. PC world are doing deals on them at the mo for around your sort of money

fair point, only used xp with acers and had no problems so far.  apart from them getting nicked.
