bloodt hell... customs...

a government service that actually works!!

bubs was on the money with the tel advice helpline.

i now have the duty rate, and the ref number for it, caused some consternation over the phone explaining what is is!! basically the issue is that it's a mat and rolls up... for some reason that (and the dimensions) were very important... wierd.

duty is 6.5%, plus VAT on the total cost (ie, incl shipping and insurance)...

i'm working on finding the cheapest seller, then will try to get them to cost up the shipping... do a few sums... et viola! the real cost will be revealed.
but lookin like a shade over £210 each on a very loose mental toting up.

Hey it's the Flashed guys here,

Noticed your thread here and had to comment.  We just want you guys to know we feel your pain.  We know our products are hard to get in the UK and Europe right now, it is the same for us trying to get European products here in Canada.  We are working on it though.  We are currently trying hard to work out a European distributor.  If you guys really want to get Flashed stuff in the UK, let your local shops know.

Have already bought from MEC or elsewhere?

Thanks for your time.

How much has it ended up costing inc taxes etc fatdoc?

These look seriously good. Particularly like the fact that they pack down like that. 8)

are these really "the shit"?
I've got a canadian relative coming over in a couple of weeks so might ask them if they can get hold of one and bring it over for me, save on import and vat

few reviews exist, but they do seem worth a good look IMO. It is however a fair chunk of cash..

Stocks seem small form my investigations so far, I'd be really keen to hear what you think of it BTW!

I think a second generation Ronin is in the offing - same pad, different external materials. I'll be trying get one asap, could be a few months though :'(

where are these available from? MEC?
there is a review on there:
Quote
Pros:Durable, High Quality, Light Weight, Many Folding Options, Soft Landings, Thick
Cons:Could be larger, Expensive
Best Uses:Bouldering, Landing on, Sleeping
Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Incredible Crash pad. This is the Rolls Royce. You can tell the difference immediatly. it packs up much smaller than others. Its incredibly soft to land on, yet Ive never gone through the pad or felt the ground through it in a harsh way. The soft air cells and velcro design are simply superb at dispersing impact forces.

The ONLY minor gripe i have is that it could be larger. You still need/want a good spotter to ensure you hit the pad. Average-ish size. Stacking with other pads is excellent.

Incredible pad - incomparable really. Expensive.

MEC have sold out. :'(

I'm sooo up for one of these ;D in the light of a new manufacturing run being made as we speak - with what I'm told is not much different materials I'll be forking out for one as soon as I can get one.

Essentially it seems to me to be a large amount of dosh for what is a top of the range product that allows you to protect yourself. I'm willing to take the chance that it's worth it. If peeps are as impressed as me - and i could be biased in the value for money stakes as my ankle is still damn sore on occasion after bouldering  - the increased cost could be seen as worth it to some climbers.

The truth will be in the testing!!

Dont forget the piccie on the flahed site is someone jumping 30ft onto one :jaw:

Yo guys it's Chris at Flashed,

If you would still like the Ronins from MEC, you can contact their remote sales line at 604-873-6221.  They are re-ordering Ronins and would be happy to order a couple extra for you guys provided they have a confirmed sale prior to their order.  If you would like, we could ensure that the Ronins you receive will be the 2nd generation models.

If you guys have any questions please give me a shout.  My email is chris@flashed.com  We really want to get you guys these pads.  Please let us know if you work something out with MEC so that we can ensure you get the pads you want.

Thanks for your interest.

Chris

Aye, I could be tempted though it'd be nice to see one first. No way of importing a few direct from Flashed?

I had a look at one of these mats in a shop the US. Firstly, they are BIG, even before inflating. About the size of a Franklin Drop Zone, but bulkier, so i guess will be pretty thick once inflated. Also looks really well made; sturddy thich rubber (?) well protected on the outside. Looks great, but not sure about what a pain if would be inflating it, or moving it about once inflated. Also I reckon a pretty big boot would be needed.

thanks for the info.

i'm waiting for my pre-order to come through. Big is fine by me, better than too small anyways.

I'll report as soon as I can on "what's life like living with a ronin pad".

As for size and packing - i have a van!!
