Wales - what's the 411?
May 20, 2007, 11:34:18 pm
Hello all,

I'm off to Llanberis for a week for me birthday in July and thought I'd ask for a bit of route knowledge.

I went there back in the day when I were starting out but just bimbled about on Idwal Slabs and Little Tryf. I'm a bit lost for places to go / routes to be doing. Anyone care to recommend me some venues / routes, VS / HVS level? I'm well up for some multi pitch adventure as well, so anything along those lines would be flava.

Cheers in advance!

Dinas Mot has loads to go at in the VS/HVS range. Either Nexus or Plexus (the HVS) has the oddest set of holds on it. Diagonal, Direct, Western Rib, Western Slab (I think those are right names not been there in 9 hears or so?) Save Tremadog for a day when it's pissing with rain, never go there intentionally, as you will end up there eventually. Gogarth has more in that range than you could do in a week.

Get Panto's new guide, there's a wealth of good stuff.

how about one of the VSs on cloggy - Great Slab? I've not done it but i've heard its well plastic. cloggy is one of the few places in north wales that is genuinley worth the big walk-in.

Check this for some long days out:

The choice at the VS/HVS grade is endless. If the weather stays good, get hiking up to the mountain crags (Pass, Ogwen, Cloggy, Craig yr Ysfa). If it turns bad go to Tremadog (loads to do here), or if you fancy an adventure (and you're packing some prussiks), go do Dream in Wen Zawn on Gogarth.
