St. Bees 2
December 08, 2009, 12:47:59 pm
I have been doing a fair bit at St. Bees Head - South over the last few months, and have finally got around to writing it up and putting a selective topo together. It's a good spot with some great climbing, full details can be found here: http://lakesbloc.com/news/239-st-bees-south-open-for-business.html

PS: This is also a new version of LakesBloc, so I hope it works ok for everyone. Should be faster with a better search function, and CMS organization (the .co.uk version will be re-routed to this domain soon).... it's no dumby.info mind, so don't get too excited.

Good stuff Greg. Keen to pay a visit next year.

(Having just looked at the pdf, the first page is blank. Is this just me/my computer?)

Nice one mate. Glad to finally hear about all this new action. All the problems look great, especially Killer Bee and Ironside. I'm hoping to go to the Lakes next weekend so if I get time I'll make a trip.

Be sure to check out the next issue of Climb (due on 10th Dec) for a St Bees lowdown (not this new stuff mind). This area was not included in the write up as Greg hadn't finished his development. It's very good to see all these new problems and presented in such a neat topo!!!

Thanks for the general thumbs-up, regarding the site. Don't think there are any problems with the topo, I have managed to open it via two different internet connections?

Regarding St. Bees: You may notice in the topo that it mentions there is a Google map documenting all noteworthy blocks I have recorded and/or climbed on – the PDF guide on the site is only a selective guide of the best lines.

Anyway, the Google map is here for all detail loving webaholics...

PS: Tom, it's Iron Hide (as in the Transformer). Ironside is at Lord's Seat, you should know that!

Hi Greg, the site and info looks great - makes me want to go back there. I grew up in Moresby Parks (for my sins). I probably first bouldered at St Bees in about '88 and I used to cycle down there after school when I was about 15. Just to put it in context that people have been bouldering at St Bees for over 20 years, even though most of the publicity has been in the last 5-10 years. I'd be keen to go back if there was a way of getting there without driving through Whitehaven. Painful memories you see... :'(

Thanks for reminding me what a top little spot this is, Greg. On a less cheery note, whoever was down there before us today/ yesterday with what must have been a bucket of whitewash needs to go back and get rid of those nasty thick tick marks and double helpings of chalk  >:(
