Get with the program guys.  Jonny brown was the first person to take me to the X....and that was a good 5 years ago...and that was after attempting and then redpointing rubicon.  The words old and hat...

Yeah listen to Calum. I did Jericho road years ago, and I can spell it. Every few years I go back to check its still shit. As of yesterday, I can confirm it is.

Shouldn't the Harris be calling the bloody lime already?? I was getting sunburnt in the Lakes over a week ago...

Actually, maybe this thread will turn into the call. I seem to remember last year's involved Johnny Brown in some sort of climbing shocker.

JB, just out of interest, if you usually spurn the lime in the summer, what do you climb? Early morning grit? trips abroad?

Trad lime, moorland grit, esoterica in the peak, sea cliffs, mountain crags elsewhere. I usually end up at peak lime sport or bouldering venues once or twice a year. The quality never fails to disappoint. Except for Thormen's moth, that actually looks good. The exception that proves the rule?

Crewe Flats isn't an option anymore.  What with Smitton's Wall (and the rest?) having bought the farm over the winter months.  I'm sure many generations of 'activists' will shed a tear for the place.

At least there's still Broomgrove.  Quality highballs up and on the left and the traverse, a classic addition from the 80s, catches any sun going.  A lot like Raven Tor in fact.  Only better.

Anyone been to Thor's Cave this year? Are the routes dry? One of my 3 sport-climbing days in 2006 was spent failing on one of Bonjoy's recent routes there and I'm keen to go back and fail some more.

Haven't been yet, will probably go the weekend after next. I'd wager everything's dry with the possible exception of the first two pockets on the Thormen's traverse, but that's just a guess.

I'm starting to get a funny tingling sensation in my nethers. And no it's not the clap or that old groin strain  :wank: rearing it's head. And then I hear Johnny Brown's been at cragx and someone just did Zeke. In April!!

I think you know what's coming........

I'm calling the lime :dance1: :dance1:

But not until tomorrow morning when I'll be celebrating (hopefully) with Rooster Booster putting the clips in & Staminaband. May the summer be dry & cool & you all get your projects ticked.

Has anyone kept records of when Arthur has called the lime each year? Is it getting earlier and earlier?

I think it is. Perhaps the good folk at the Uk phenology network should be kept informed.

However I can't help feeling this call may be premature, and if I may say so, a little knee-jerk, hasty and generally lacking in the gravity usually accorded. An unusually dry march does not a summer make. Though if it continues in this vein it may be the driest year ever, unfortunately probably the hottest as well.

Which means that all the Lime in the UK will be drier than the Atacama desert. Which is very dry  ;D ;D. Bring it on  8)

If it gets too dry don't some of the limestone venues start falling to bits?

I've heard that myth. Utter rubbish IMO. People just get to pull on holds that have not been used for years hence a few falling off.

I actually pulled on the Lime yesterday at Crag X too - what a child friendly - unspoilt - quiet place it is too - and non of the rock was dirty at all of course!!

..What a lovely pastime is the lime....

I thought that crag X had a no-go policy, hence its removal from guide books and this forum (name only)

Its a bit weird that you are saying how good it is when this might affect the access Jacqusie

I'm not sure about that one. Caley has been buzzing the last two nights. Packed with boulderers and routers, perfect conditions and sends galore.
