IMPORTANT news about Sonlerto and Brione

(1/7) > >>

james:
Please DO NOT climb at Sonlerto (Dosage 3 and 4) or Brione (village area).  The locals and land owners are VERY angry to say the least and have threatened to spray the boulders with grease if people climb there!!!  Talks are under way between local developers and residents to try and negotiate the allowance of climbing in the winter months but sadly, so far nothing has been agreed.

These are great areas and there is a chance that access could be agreed but we all need to stay away until further notice.  It would be a tragedy to loose these amazing blocs forever!

Thanks for your help.

James

It is just a long time feud between climbers and the farmer at Sonlerto, apparently he wants to spray oil on all the boulders. Brione is due to the little village you have to walk through. Fingers crossed though both places are ace!

james:
A long time feud is a bit OTT!
Basically, The farmer, who has been up there all his life, has a few small fields (where the boulders are) that are "his life" and understandably feels uneasy about a load of strangers on his land.  When climbing in the valley began to get developed (around 5 years ago), an agreement was made not to climb on the boulders in his field.  Steini, the developer asked other climbers including Dave G and Chris S to leave the boulders but I guess they ignored him and now anyone (including myself) who has seen Dosage assumes it is cool to climb there.
We were warming up and the farmer came over and shouted something at us in Italian/German/French??? about not walking in his field.  He then left and we presumed as long as we stayed on the path, all was well.  Half an hour later, Steini turned up and informed us of the situation so we packed up to leave just as the farmer turned up fuming.  I guess he had asked us to leave before and we had misunderstood.  He was really pissed and was threatening to spray the boulders with oil but Steini managed to calm him down.
Hopefully, some sort of arrangement will get sorted out and climbing may be allowed in the winter months (I hope so anyway as I still have unfinished business :wall:) but until this is confirmed, it is of the utmost importance that no one climb on these boulders.

The story at Brione is similar but I guess more to do with lots of people shouting/shitting etc in a beautiful, quiet village, 10 min from the nearest road.  Just a bit of a shock for people who have lived in such a peaceful place all their life.

Lets hope it all turns out ok.
