We then rescued him and his Mrs on the Cornice the next day and became bosom buddies.

Do you remember the Norwegians in the corner  (on La Palud/ main road side) and the white camper van parked just outside? ( albeit plugged into the campsite socket...)

Not us. We were all rather amiable. It was the La Palud site and (as I remember) it was split into a families and group sections. Our friend decided that he would set up next to us, despite the staff's insistence he should stay in the other field (the group field being almost empty at the time). We returned late, opened some bottles and were merrily doing what you do when camping; when he introduced himself with a bucket of water.

The campsite staff made him leave, but it did provide some entertainment and brought gawping crowds...
