Can anyone point me at a particular photo. From 60s/70s. 2 climbers (maybe Whillance and...? Phizacklea?) on a semi hanging belay. In waistbelts, looking up and eyeing up a new route in the Lakes. I think they were being filmed for a TV show. Very nonchalant look. Arms folded. One is wearing a white vest and has a fag on.

Quite a distinctive image that I'm sure would come up with googling if only I could remember the names of the climbers. I think its in one of the FRCC guides (Gable and Pillar; new Scafell; Select)?

What strikes me most about the photo is Whillance's harness. Why would you choose not to have leg loops?!

If you'll excuse the Americanisms, I honestly think that this photo makes Whillance look like the most bad ass, coolest looking mother-fucker on rock. He is "casually deliberate" personified.
Nonchalant fag, totally hench, joggers, white tee, blatant disregard for legloops, immaculately coiffed hair and 'tache. He looks like a movie star. High up on a Lakeland mountain crag, forging a bold new route up an immaculate piece of rock. Is there anything cooler?

If the scene was taking place in North Wales there'd be bright lycra and an entourage, and it would all be a bit self conscious.
