Found my Dads old copies of Mountain going through some stuff yesterday. Lots of good retro climbing action. Some of the covers are great. This was one of the best looking. Think it was also on the cover of one of the editions of Games Climbers Play.



My scanner has long since broken but I could photograph some bits a la slackers if people are interested. Lots of 70's mountaineering and aid climbing articles e.g. Doug Scotts account of the 1st ascent of SW face of Everest. I've never been that into aid or mountaineering but some of them are really well written.

I actually donated my purple Hot Rock to my niece last year. I also had Aces (bought for my first Boux trip (89/90?)). I unfortunately had bright green Tiger striped Lycra tights. The shorts would have been an improvement...

Boreal Aces 

I once went to Wilton on a warm, windless summer evening wearing Boral Aces.  The midgies loved the fluorescent trim so much, I thought for days afterwards the little bastards had ring-barked my ankles and my feet were going to fall off. I was getting through several tubes of antihistamine cream a day.

I climbed with Andy a fair bit in the late 80s, especially at Avon, which had a great scene back then and, probably unsurprisingly, bred a particular type of ultra bold tradder. Andy exemplified this breed - great company too. Still at it in Colorado.

I met Dan at Waterval Boven in about 1993 or 4, he was one of the first Brits to visit in the sanction days. He was trying to flog off his knackered old trad gear to eke out a few more days climbing before heading home.
