Lots of other interesting stats relating to 70's Leeds Uni club days too....

Let's be having them then.

I suppose the article is just so well written and paints a great picture of the goings on at that time - i better just scan the whole thing in and post it i think. My favourite other fact, which is quite well known I thought, was John Syrett going from non-climber to an onsight of Wall of Horrors inside 12 months, which in the 70's was a massive deal. All done training at the Leeds Uni wall (RIP) which if you've climbed on it would have required a lot of imagination - there in spades considering all the characters knocking about at the time.

Late '80s. If only it were in color to show off the old pink UFOs and the lime green baggy sleeveless.

And late chiming in on the Blunk worshipping.... Scott, doubt you remember me but back in maybe 87 I fell out of control and sideways off the finishing jug on Right El Murray. I remember being prepared for the worst and then just stopping in mid-air. You'd literally plucked me out of the air. I'm not a big guy but damn.
Best spotter ever.

The landing under the mushroom boulder is pretty good but pre mats I wouldn't want to fall from the top!

Someone must be able to name them all. Chris Sowden climbing and that has to be big Ron.

Only just found this thread, young climber so no old skool pics but loving it. Amazing to see the pics of the FA of Indian Face! Lesson in climbing history and the myriad ways to achieve bad haircuts. I'm just waiting for lycra leggings to come back in. Soon, sooooooon...

 :great:

Way ahead of you. Come climbing with the LUUMC. Every trip is a tight and bright trip as far as we're concerned. Mine are flared at the bottom and have gold sequins. Pure power.
In fact I did once hear someone at Demon Wall Roof say "I can't leave the crag till I've got a pic of that kids pants".
Proud day.

Also, can we have route names and locations for the routes above? They all look superb.

I'm sadly captured for posterity in the Stoney guide belaying Jason wearing....pink tights. If they were good enough for Andy Pollitt then at the time I thought they'd be good enough for me. Fortunately the guide's out of print now.

Sorry Malachi, I don't remember you. I do remember many great sessions at the Mushroom boulder, shame it's closed now. And lots of people asking me for a spot!

I'll have to dig out the photo's of me on the mushroom boulder, pre pads, one very old school mooching spotter, 5 July 1996? give or take a year or two but 5 July it was.

Good God man, it must have been 110 degrees there in July!! :jaw:

Just looked it up, only 98 degrees. Still impressive to drive out there and attempt to boulder. What's the story behind that?
