The truly amazing thing is that Titan was (re)discovered in 1999 and the news have only just cottoned on to this!!

surely this is a possiblity of bolting a new sports crag. there is a dearth of quality sports crags in uk. imo

bet the cavers would be pleased seeing climbing and big petrol drills

It's ridiculous - this "news" is 7 fucking years out of date.

Must have been a slow day at the bbc or somethig.

Already been done - bolting up avens / climbs has been accepted practice in caving for over 20 years with power drills, and god only knows how long with hammers.
As has climbing (Gee Gee Rider etc etc)

Is that the thing in Eldon Hole?

No it's a multi-pitch afair coming out of Gaping Gyll. I think it's only viable in drought conditions or if the stream has been diverted by cavers. The one out of Eldon is Independance Day, this is much more like a conventional open air rock climb.

I was about to ask the same question.

I remember a High magazine cover of some sport route in said Eldon hole.  Did this not catch on?

Here’s a couple of shots from my multi-year multi-pitch epic in Thor’s cave. Have made two attempts at this behemoth now and have successfully freed all the pitches, but am holding back on claiming it until it’s done free in one push with the minimum belays taken.

Kris Klemow seconding pitch one. Photo taken with flash

Any improvement on previous attempts? Are you able to now claim this as a route?

Did all pitches free on the day bar the last hard pitch which Neil fell off the last move of on the onsight. Want to lead clean in a day and run two of the pitches together as one hard pitch, before breaking out the cigars.

And its effing desperate even then. Its slippy all the way up, technically relatively easy, but you really, REALLY, REALLY don't want to be falling. Belaying is ok except for the cold even when the stream is diverted, as there are bolt anchors everywhere. Better left to cavers and other masochistic types.

There was also an attempt made on climbing the pitches in Diccan Pot (wet way into Alum Pot, but we got washed off (literally). Free Climbing Alum pot is not at all difficult - mind you we didn't lead it, just top rope.
