I had a good old chat to Big Ron in a dream last night. He was a bus conductor. I can't remember where the bus was going.

Stanage I reckon.

Has to be odds on, doesn't it? Or maybe the X23, a bus that used to ply a regular route across the Peak, from Stoke to Sheffield, and that could drop you within walking distance of much of the best climbing in the region: all of Staffordshire grit, the central limestone and the eastern edges. Best bus service ever.

Shark, re: your wad point. Yes, we were on a bus, the bus was going somewhere, and Ron was wearing a uniform and carrying a ticket machine (do these even still exist?).

Working on the buses was briefly a popular job amongst Sheffield climbers in the late 70s/early 80s. POD, Strappo, some of the Stokes’ brothers and, I think, others were drivers or conductors. The keen could fit a half day climbing between split shifts. Sadly, I don’t think Ron was ever one of them.

Bet he doesn't look a million miles from Blakey from "On The Busses" these days, maybe that's where the train (bus) of thought in your dream was going.

Isn't there a dreams thread somewhere?

I dreamed about Ron Hill, I wonder if the two Ron’s have ever met in a dream?

Sadly, I don’t think Ron was ever one of them.

Could someone double-check next time they see him? Ta.

As to Blakey, that calls for someone's photoshop skills.

And Bravo! Cheque.

I think Ron’s employment history probably could be written on the back of a postage stamp.
However I was a bus conductor for the West Yorkshire road car company at the same time as Mark S’s uncle Pete.
Paid for a trip to the states in 1979.

Chris Gore was a bus driver too
