if anybody knows where i can get a copy of 7+8 i would be thankful (indeed if anybody has a spare for sale? )

is that new off peiste one good??? should i get that bought up?

Isn't a new updated 7+8 guide due for next year?  Might be worth hanging on for that.  It might even have a picture of a French climber in this time. 

Does the off piste one, overlap a lot with the 7+8s?  I've not seen it yet.

The combination of 7+8 and De Gres Six works well for me. Both guides seem accurate and offer a huge number of problems from 5+ to infinity, enough to keep me happy for a couple of lifetimes.

the hors piste guide does have a fair bit of overlap with 7+8, but also includes loads of the best 6's which is nice, plus loads of stuff not in 7+8, in general bit more generous on the grade side, has lots of good photos, and it's available, which as far as I'm aware 7+8 isn't.

If you need a guide now, get it (decathalon at font had it in stock as of two weeks ago).
If you can wait, I'd hang on for the update on 7+8 (but we all know about guidebook publication dates...)
