That camera's giving you some really nice colours there - really vivid..

I just cheat Tom using colour presets while editing, the original is pretty eastern bloc. Works well considering it's a compact.

bit of a yyfy last night.

Get in!

Really liked that one Nathan! Nice mix of problems, colours are great (new camera), great music choice and obviously some effort put into finding some good angles that really add interest. Awesome!

Sweltering/wet Anston. Anyone got any tips on filming light coloured limestone in the sun, no matter what I try it looks like they're crimping along a line of clouds?

Can you set exposure on the camera, maybe underexpose a bit?

Have you got exposure control on your camera? zebra striping?
with zebra striping on 100%, knock down the exposure until none of the rock around the climber (doesn't matter about stuff away from the climber) is showing as being over exposed. Then dick about with brightness and contrast in post

alternatively, point the camera at the brightest bits of rock and then fix the exposure at that setting (assuming you have a camera that lets you fix exposure)

polarising filter?

spotlight mode on my camera makes the camera pay attention to the bright bits and adjust itself to make them look OK

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately I am only using a compact and it doesn't have exposure lock, which is a pain. I think knocking down the exposure before shooting should do the trick as long as the light is consistent.

I've looked into doing a bit of DIY and attaching filters, i'll post the results. It's fun seeing how far you can push a compact.

I'm no expert on video, but from a photography pov contrast on pale rocks in woodland is often unmanageable in full sunshine. A polariser won't help as they generally increase contrast. The gear options would be either a massive diffuser (cloud ideally), or a massive reflector, or some fill lighting, but 99% of the time trying to recompose is a better option - ie move either fully into the shade or sun.

Interestng, thanks. Incidently, I once chanced upon a bloke with a full school photo type rig taking pictures of someone on deliverance, he seemed to have a cloud size diffuser if it's what I think it is.

this is a small video of the problem I climbed the other day. I took it with my iPad and I don't know how to edit it, so I tell you that nothing happens until 50 seconds in. hope you like the climbing.
