Somehow yeah! Missed the pads completely and rolled backwards all the way down to the start of pongo sit. Took a few days to recover from the whiplash but otherwise walked away unscathed.

Yoss I am rubbish at videoing stuff but really tried for this week in Font. I got an actual camera rather than a phone which seemed to help me remember to actually get the camera out. Still more than 50% was unusably out of focus/lens cap on/pressed record at the wrong time… well aware it’s rubbish, not even got a gabber soundtrack, but figured if I did one I might do more…

Cheers Ed and Nick. I think the TGH wall had an awkward landing reshuffled a bit but I managed to sneak in. Mark20 did a line to the left, directly past the left hand jug pocket that I used for my foot. Morpho 6D-ish. There seems to be a lot to find in the woods, Spike only did Chagus Goes To Vegas - very obvious and cool, but needs a few pads - in January this year.

Disclaimer: Not a Geologist

At the Land of Giants, the base rock I think is sandstone and depending on which layer of the cliffs above it has come from it ranges from very pebbly (like a conglomerate) to literally zero pebbles (like the best fine gritstone). But that isn't the really the main factor affecting the climbing. It seems that in some layers the pebbles are set much more firmly into the base rock, so much so that the the rock breaks right through the middle of the pebbles, so it doesn't really feel like climbing on pebbly rock (it just looks pebbly). Other sections the base seems to break around the pebbles, leaving overall a much more pebbly rock, with lots of them mostly sticking out and some little pockets where they have come loose. But one extra factor is the pebbles are mostly very smooth (well rounded river pebbles?) so even where it is pebbly it really isn't that sharp. I found the Gneiss at the promontory much sharper overall.

Robbie and Dave (plus a few others) have done an amazing job developing the area! I had a great week on some amazing problems. And the amount of unclimbed rock in the North West is ridiculous, if exploration is your thing.

So (to condense that), no. The majority of the rock isn't pebbly, it just looks like it is, and provides excellent climbing features. The Land of Giants is brilliant.
