'Drugs and the meaning of life' was really enjoyable and 'behind the gun' some are a bit hit and miss depending on the quality of the guest. One of the interesting things I find is the focus on rationality, science and reason.

We tried Hacienda last year and thought it was one of those that looked better than it is. Basically all the way up your right hand is in a crack which when climbed on it's own is a few grades lower than Hacienda. Which kind of makes Hacienda in effect a bit eliminate. Plus we got shut down on it, and you know how problems you get shut down on are shit?

Totally disagree with this. I take pride in doing down my own problems these days, but I won’t have it that Hacienda is an eliminate - you start at the base of the arete and there’s no other way of getting up it. The sequence is subtle and excellent and the line and setting are superb. I know a number of people who’ve trudged up there over numerous sessions to get it and you don’t go to that sort of effort unless you rate a climb.

The fact remains you've always got one hand in a crack, which is graded easier if you climb the crack alone. Granted by today's standards this is not a factor for most.

For me it's a compelling line but I was disappointed, coloured to a large extent by the fact I was knackered at the end of a long day, and by the fact all the photos I'd seen were from the arete side so the impact of the crack wasn't clear until we got there.

The video file says 9:20pm. It was very gloomy already when I got there at half 7 so by the time I had warmed up I decided to bust out the headtorch and flashlight. Bad light definitely would have stopped play otherwise!

Ta! I'd heard of Mt Gretna and Governor's Stable (to my shame I haven't been to Gretna though its only about a 1 hour 20 away) but not the other two areas. The very best areas in PA, however, are all in the SW corner, many hours drive away. Check out the final problem (from 2.00) in this video:
