Live Music thread
October 20, 2006, 09:58:53 am
A thread to advertise gigs, or tell us what gigs you've seen recently that were good or bad...

Last night I went to see a crazy Italian band called Ephel Duath- Jazz meets death metal. They were fucking awesome, and it was a free gig too. The support band Tangaroa were also very good.

Tonight I'm going to day one of the Brainwash Festival in Leeds, in the Brudenell social club and Royal Park cellars. Oceansize are headlining, so it should be good...

Who have you guys seen/ will be seeing?

Gomez, Barrowlands, Glasgow 18th November. Be nice to get to see some good local stuff when I'm in Cape Town.

Did I mention I'm off there tonight?

Oh my god, my ears are about to give up on me.

8 bands in a few hours over two venues is way too much for the poor blighters to manage. Especially when Red Stars Parade are screaming in your ear...

Digging this out from the grave....

Long shot, but anyone seen Field Music live? Noticed they are playing in Aberdeen in October. I quite like the music (although it strays too close to Steely Dan for my liking occasionally) but wondered if they were any good live?

Thanks

In what way can this be a bad thing?

Might check 'em out at Festival No. 6 in a couple of weeks. Line up looks brilliant, and the setting should make it a bit more interesting than your average farmers' field/ deer park.

A load of old, jaded The Prisoner fans wandering around smacked out on mushrooms for the first time since the 60s without a clue who all these youngster bands are?

If I ever feel the urge to listen to Steely Dan ( it may yet happen) then I listen to steely dan

I'm afraid I did - had a clash - but did see Van Dyke Parks, possibly an even bigger cult legend tick. Just too many good things to mentions from this weekend.

I'm off to Festival no.6 too. I would have travelled a long way for a line up like that, but having it on my doorstep is such a treat.  :dance1:

Loads of other North Wales folk going that you lot might know; should be a right laugh.  :beer2:

What ticket/accommodation combinations have you No. Sixers gone for; there seem to be loads of choices and it'll be interesting to see how it works.

Would love to be going but have commitments and can't justify a third festival in less than a month ... Line up is great but I've seen many of them either in their pomp or recently and EoTR had more that seemed essential to me. Check out Liverpool's own Stealing Sheep.

I just went for a normal camping ticket. The tier thing was confusing at first but all it means is that it's cheaper to buy early.

Im going for the atmosphere and a weekend relaxing more than anything but would like to see Richard Hawley who I've never seen live, Maxine Peake's thing with the Hexen/Demdike.  Will probably choose Kid Creosote over Primal Scream but will make my mind up once I've seen the venues as the former won't be as good as earlier this year in the church if he's in a noisy venue.  The Early Years, Stealing Sheep/Richard James.  The DJ line up is great also so I'm keen for some Andy Weatherall, a friend of mine Richard Hector Jones is also on one of the stages and my new neighbour Don Letts  8)

Weather forecast looks pretty good.  Really looking forward to it and catching up with friends after the year I've had so far.

I'll be going to see this next weekend

http://visitparis-cultureguide.parisinfo.com/fr/concert/l-ensemble-doulce-memoire-ensemble-kudsi-erguner-festival-d-ile-de-france-e-803118

Sufi music in a church in Essonne. Looks pretty close to Chamarande, so I'll try to snaffle a quick climb first. The sight of me in my climbing gear in a church will likely get the sport banned from the next olympics.

And should be going to see Gallon drunk, that should be a blast from the past.

We should probably set a time for a No. 6 UKB meet up. Always risky relying on mobiles at these events, they're usually unusable.
