From what I know (very little) of the situation, the prime minister is beyond simply corrupt, he is a true dirty devil. Now he's out of the country the army is acting. The reason the PM has support is due to bribes he hands out before every vote...

The King is the man from what i understand. He is cleaner than daz white. However, his son is the opposite and most corrupt. So, whilst this may get sorted out rather soon when the King pokes his head in and forces them to sort it out, it will only repeat on a worse scale when the King dies.

I was there on the kings' birthday: countrywide parties everywhere.   Massive support for the king in this country from peasants to toffs - bloody huge.

I just got back on Monday but Ive put the feelers out to get the word on the street. Sounds all pretty peaceful at the moment though

I guess it depends where youre going. Bangkok sounds a bit full on at the moment but if you just in transit and heading out somewhere else then I woudlnt be cancelling just yet. British Airways and Quantas are still running all their flights as normal and to be honest Tonsai may as well be in Mongolia for all the contact you have with the rest of the population.

I wouldn't worry too much - my parents lived through 2 coups in Bangkok in the seventies, including curfews and the lot - and the whole thing was pretty peaceful. Most think this will be the same...
