This is a thread for the Underrated artists
September 15, 2006, 10:28:33 pm
I've just spent the evening investigating this site
http://www.thecrimea.net/uk/index.php?region=uk
and it struck me that I'd like you lot to hear their music. I've been an avid listener for ages; I knew Davey the singer whilst at uni in Aberystwyth (at the time he and Owen the drummer were with others as
The Crocketts
So of course I got the album. What I was unaware of was the background of the lyrics on
Tragedy Rocks
until I read the notes on the About Us bit...
Anyway, I think they're underrated, you can listen to some songs on the site, etc.
Anyone have any more nominations?

I think the Electric Soft Parade have been neglected. There was some fuss made by Peel when they first kicked off and I was inspired to buy their music when I saw them rock Later with Fools Holl-twat. Recently dug out the albums I bought (as the missus is down in Dorset for the End of the Road Festival this weekend and they're playing) and have thoroughly enjoyed them again.
I rate this album;
But this is better;
May I also mention Biffy Clyro, a cool sound and interesting interesting art work;

If you like what you hear, come to Zanzibar in Liverpool tonight for the Valhalla rock night if you're in the vicinity. The guys put the night on and it's always popular and a good time had by all. They'll also be playing.

Killdozer
.
Commie-pinko rock @ it's best. They had a terrific sense of humour & really knew how to hurl the bile. A great 3 piece. (All on Touch & Go Records.)
In particular the LP's:
12 Point Buck.
Intellectuals are the shoeshines boys of the ruling elite.
Uncompromising war on art under the dictatorship of the proletariat.

Killdozer had many hilarious covers.
PS. Both Microdisney & The Fatima Mansions were underrated in their time.

Thank you. To make amends for my laziness, anyone who wants a 30 second clip of many Killdozer tracks can do so from here:

The Ex
. 27 years and still going strong. Dutch-punkrock at it's best and bloody underrated. They'd put on a great show in a vacuum or underwater.
Tracks here.

Those familiar with Shellacs' Terraform LP will be aware of Chesley Bonestall.

Here's some Ivor Cutler for those that have never heard of this deeply strange but loveable Scotsman:
The River Bends.
A real Man.
Once A Fortnight.
A Cowboy Song.

I've got quite a few Cutler albums - amazing bloke, can be totally hilarious but also just totally mind boggling.

Finally tracked down Dan Yagmin. I knew he dabbled but not quite this much. He's very modest. The portraits are fine.

No idea how well known they are in the UK, but I really like Sublime. Well known in the US and SA, but normally resulting with a shrug of the shoulders in the UK.

Wow, Killdozer, there's a blast from the past. I've got a copy of Little Bay Buntin somewhere in my record cupboard - must dig it out.

I just love the vocal delivery of Killdozer, in particular on the track Towering Inferno when he growls:
It's a Man against Nature fight for survival.
Fantastic irony in their songs

Lorenzo Bartolini:
The Nymph and Scorpion
(probably can't count as underrated as it's in the Louvre - but I'm a big fan so I'll post regardless).
I can't steal the pic I want but visit

I saw that and thought - strewth, that hounds' got a big gob... Looks like he's about to consume the poor lamby-whammy. Kinda as if the dogs' bottom lip has been stretched like those tribes who put those wooden plate in their mush.
