Quote from: Observer, 2003
Leeds-born Marcus Harvey, 40 this year, hasn't been seen much since his anti-heroic antics at Sensation. It was the 11ft by 9ft portrait of Myra Hindley, remember, made out of stencilled children's handprints (and now on show in County Hall) that caused the very foundations of Burlington House to tremble and four distinguished Royal Academicians to resign their posts in disgust.

Myra Hindley's evil face inspired sick artist Marcus Harvey to paint her portrait using thousands of children's handprints,' enthused the Daily Star while box office boomed. Splattered with ink and eggs and subsequently shut behind glass, Myra appeared to exhaust Harvey's creative stamina and output for years afterwards.

That's amazing!

Mark - do you make your own canvasses btw? If so, what do you use?

No, putting canvases looks like it's pretty tricky. I decided that I'd mess it up sufficiently often that it would annoy me. Plus I'm not using canvases often enough that the savings would be much.

I've bought them from a variety of places on-line and in Sheffield, depending on what size I'm after. Pinders have a good selection at reasonable prices. There's also a place on Queens Road called something like Dunham Mill. It's a big household goods store that happens to sell canvases. Not the greatest quality but 4 quid for a 50x40cm canvas is good when you're just learning and experimenting.

I'm not sure if this is "Urban art", but I class it as art......... of some description.

Me and some dudes found this proper peaceful little riverbank near where we live. Its next to a church and graveyard. At first we just went down with a few BBQ's and some tinnies and chilled the hell out. After a while though, and a few doobies we started pissing about making comfy seats out of the rock from the side of the river.

Well it kinda spiralled out of control with us ending up with a full living room consisting of about 7 arm chairs, 2 custom made fires, a sofa and a living room table complete with vase and flowers and a chunk of rock that looked like a sky remote!!!!

It was class, really good fun. The best part was, and rather surprisingly, it only took about 20 minutes to make a full on arm chair. So if it rained and the river swept everything away, you simply started again. They were dead comfy as well.

Here's a view of said living room

My mate Rob on the sofa

And 2 shots of the living room in use. Take note of the lovely vase with the expensive flower arrangement........  ;D

We spent many an evening there, and I look forward to next year to go back again.

Agreed with the rural bit, could this be the start of a new thread?!

It is a wicked spot, the odd family goes there for a swim and stuff but its generally quiet. There was a spate of young lads/chav's on scramblers who rode past on the other side of the river, but on the whole tranquil.

This is cool, though I'm not sure on the copyright position

It's the whole of Tristan Manco's Stencil Graffiti book, photographed and scanned.
