Outdoor bouldering comps

I have never heard about any on this side of the Atlantic but in the US they seem to be big stuff (http://www.phoenixboulderingcontest.com/ etc.)

Obviously there are big envromental issues but it could be a way of developing an area, heres your brush, heres a topo with loads of projects on it, lets see who does the most new problems and then get pissed.

Sounds like a laugh, would like to do one here but the weather isn't exactly reliable, you could even scam loads of prizes...

I'm sort of uneasy about the whole idea, and I hope it never happens here.

Most areas in the UK that would be likely candidates for an outdoor comp almost certainly don't need any more development.

Perhaps if there was an area that needed loads of development, and wouldn't just get trashed, it might work?

Historically didn't someone hold a leading comp at Malham once?

It caused such outcry that they never did it again.... I think.

I think they held a comp in a lakes quarry oncve and Dunnemaster-J got in bother for chipping some holds.

On the whole i think theres not enough rock in the UK for this kinds shit. In the USA theres more rock than they can shake a clipstick at.
