I've got hold of some web space and have started to put some photo's up (magic wood thread)
anyway I'm a complete beginner at all this stuff.
Question:
there are some files on my ftp space which I can't delete. it sez

The system cannot find the file specified.

when I try to delete them. however it will let me move the folder about that they are in. Why can't I delete these bloody files? I've tried with filezilla and smartFTP client and both give the same response

Check the perms on the directory - you may need to CHMOD it to be writeable?

How do you check the perms - you cant do it in FTP mangler, thats for sure. Perhaps there is some web based directory management thing you have access to?

In filezilla it shows you the Permissions, if you right click on a directory and select File Attributes you can both see and set the different Read, Write and Execute permissions.
You could also do it with a raw server command.

Thanks, have tried all that. The problem is that it can't find the file even tho they are showing up in the directory listing. strange

Perhaps its a symbolic link or something? Oh I dont know. Is it hometime yet?
