My nephew had a motorbike accident and took the skin off above both his knees to the point where you could see bone and tendons etc (they were talking about skin grafts - it was that bad).
In A&E he was absolutely fine, laughing and joking - it looked so grim the woman from paedeatrics went green-ish when she saw it. I asked what drugs they'd given him on the ambulance and they said they only gave him co-codamol!
He was out of his face on morphine for the next 3 days and said he was in so much pain.
I reckon the adrenalin must stay in the system for quite some time...
