Bouldering in Ireland - Glendalough

Hi,

I am from Leicester in England but moved over to Ireland 2 years ago, and guys there is some classic bouldering over here!! Anyone interested please give me a shout and its well worth it!

Does anyone know any other places over in Ireland that they'd like to share?

And there is always the social side of Guinness afterwards...

Dave, one last question - to get to the hut do you just head to Glendalough and keep going??

The Hut is positioned in the Glendasan Valley near Glendalough. From Laragh drive towards Glendalough but at vee turn right onto the Wicklow Gap road, The Hut is the 4th house on the left 0.8 miles from vee.

Was anyone out in Glendalough? I hear it was great weather for it this weekend so maybe I'll stay closer to home and head there this weekend!!

Aughris Head is good - similar to Portrane.
Then there's also the miles of 'secret' gritstone crags near the sligo/leitrim/cavan border........ ;)

Are they the same sort of grit as English grit?

Same geological age and setting, but bedding is different - generally very thinly bedded where I've seen it - looks great from a distance, but pretty disappointing when you get close up - put it this way, I went once to have a look, and didn't bother going again. Also, like most remote crags in ireland, you have to walk across freakin miles of bog....

Saying that, there looked to be better areas around Cuilcagh Mtn, possibly with some big boulders, but never made it up there to check them out.

Pah - you just don't appreciate quality Dave.
Much happened in Wicklow recently? Has Seamus published his new area yet?
