If you like pizza, then the Pizza and a Pint place out past V12 and keep going for a while (walk in five minutes) is pretty good. Usually busy. Gallt y Glyn? I think maybe that's the name.

Not sure if you're there during the day but two places that won't disappoint for breakfast/lunch eats:

The vaynol in nant peris is quite good for a beer. Not sure about the food though. Look out for an alcoholic shepherd called raymond!

At the risk of offending any Welsh on here. Does anyone else think the pubs in North Wales tend to be a bit crap compared to your standard English country pub?

They're shit in 'beris certainly!

The Bridge in Menai, The Bull in Beaumaris, The Albion in Conwy, The Vanyol near Glasinfryn (not Nant Peris), The Queens Head in Glanwydden. All are good, plenty more of course.

I think there are plenty of good ones in n.Wales in general. Just not in 'beris. They're all pretty dire. Never worked out why this is - clientele or owners.

Another vote for the Caban.  It's lovely.  Well worth the little drive from wherever you're staying.  There's also a brilliant selection of second hand books that might hike up the price of breakfast.

Robinsons beer is crap.

It certainly used to be. It's now pretty good. No idea why it's so dominant in Wales when it's brewed in Stockport.

Caban does do excellent food and it's a nice place to hang out, but do remember that the cafe stops serving at 4.

I like a pint in the Pen y Gwryd if I've been climbing over the Gwynant side. Purple moose beer. Vaynol on Nant is fine by me - I reckon the Robinsons they serve is good.

And I'm off for a pint in the Heights very soon...

The family have (or had) a place in Abersoch and Nefyn.  I used to know the two sons way back and they've always had connections to Nth Wales - I think one or both now runs the company but I've not seen them since the 80's.  You're right though, it used to be pretty rank but is up there with a decent brews these days.

I'll have to give Robinsons another go if its improved, have opted for alternatives the last few years.

The story was it didn't travel. I knew folk from Hayfield who organised a coach trip to the pub across the road from the brewery to get it at its best.

We ate/drank in the Heights one evening this summer. It was OK; not great, but not terrible. It was OK.

I'm meeting my friend up at the pass early tomorrow - but he headed over this evening. He's just texted:

"Sat in The Heights, reading the paper. slightly intimidating locals on a Saturday night out vibe. Even though it's Friday."

:)

Another vote for Pen y Gwryd. Worth going for atmos and all the old climbing/mountaineering gear they've got all over the walls (Hilary/Everest connection). You won't be disappointed if you drop in a for a beer. Worth doing at least once. It'd be worth visting anywhere in the U.K.

Vaynol has a lively local crowd. food is basic but does the job. Nice roaring fire usually.

Not been to any boozers yet, but the B&B has a value for money super view of a large dog and a rotting pulpit! What more could a man want?

Heights was ok - though they ran out of Doombar at 8 and the rest of the selection (one hoppy pale ale) wasn't great..

Sadly (annoyingly) the pizza and pint place had this on the door...

So we did the honourable thing and went for a Curry - which whilst not noutstanding, was pretty decent.
