you gotta love basher's "dressing up box" look at rivelin in the 89 guide - red tights, tiny white running shorts over the top of them, and a floppy black and teal fairisle jumper. can't remember exactly but i assume its capped off with fires and ice white sports socks (with double cadet stripes) pulled well up the calves. its a look that redefines sports casual.

Ah, the piss stained lycra - christmas jumper combo. A Llanberis - circa 1988 - favourite, especially for Pritch and his cronies. Those brave bastards used to wear that crazy kit down the pub. No wonder there were so many fights in the Padarn back in the 80s.

what about the amazing amount of candystripe lycra in the Froggatt guide? That spandex / jumper combo is the shizzle word.

mark Leach at froggatt looked amazing, like a kinda cross between a stick of rock and uncle peter.

on the flipside, the fewer photos of colin binks i have to look at in that bloody red corduroy sailor hat the better.

the shot of sharples in stoney cafe (my god i can't even remember what it's on? black n tans, anyone?) with a melon on either side of his head is what it's all about. for me that's the best climbing shot

am still haunted by the trauma me and andy pop caused to a group of school kids out at the far skyline, when we emerged from wild thing decked in well holed metallic lycra and diy haircuts - think they were ready for wallabies but not that!

Or Keith Sharples casually cracking one off whilst hanging from a jam at the top of Mental Pygmy at Black Rocks.

As in rubbing one out?

Climbing does excite me occasionally, but that seems a little OTT.

genius    that's the funniest post I've read in a while. But with the guide in front of me, I can see that you're not quite right. The socks have TRIPLE cadet stripes.

Alright there andy. Those tights have history, don't  they. Didn't you have to risk your life to get your hands on those babies?
