 :agree:

We used to have drunken Tekken 3 sessions that would sometimes end up in a real life ruck in the living room :)

Ive just completed Assassins Creed 2 on the X-Box... MINT

TBH it posed quite an issue when picking consoles.

Xbox 360 with Halo or PS3 with Tekken  :devangel:

Worryingly I played over 1000 online games of halo within a year. Do you still play a lot Bubbs? Obviously I haven't been on for ages.

Jeez I couldn't be bothered to stick Assassins Creed 1 long enough to be able to use all of the controls, overly complex.

why do you need the larger hard drive? all the stuff I want to watch will be streamed via LAN from my main PC or eventually from a NAS and the games come on blurays don't they?

Hard-Drives (/storage) are cheap so I grabbed one because with the PlayTV you can effectively turn the PS3 into a PVR and 80Gb wouldn't have stored much TV.  Added advantage is that you can also install all your games to the HD and not have to faff around changing discs (also gives lots of space for downloading games and films to the HD).

I miss tekken... I've never really found anything similar on the Xbox that wowed me.

You can get Tekken 6 for the 360 for the first time and its excellent.

#359 Re: Maybe getting a console
January 20, 2010, 07:08:51 pm
slightly off topic but can' be arsed starting my own thead
I'm looking to replace my HTPC with a console that can also be a media server (ie play content over a network) and also used as a bluray player.
I have only a short experience of doing it on a PS3 when I set it up for a friend once. Does XBOX have a bluray drive?
Is there any benafit on either? I will be mostly playing .MKV, .avi and .mp4 files. Do either or both support 5.1/DTS/DD surround sound etc..
Also with regards to games, which have better games for a non-gamer gamer with very little time on his hands (ie arcade style)?
Cheers

If you're not arsed about games then you might want to consider one of these bad boys...

Now it does indicate that it doesn't support Media Centres, and this thread suggests that some sort of WDTV variant does work with network served media.

Well I want it as a bluray player mainly.
I was thinking of getting a LG BD390 bluray player and network media player but for the same money I could have the ps3 and play the odd game when I get chance.
I could also just buy a bluray rom drive for the htpc I have but it just becomes complicated then and the ps3 should just work out of the box.

Anyone seen or know of any good deals? I'm after a ps3 slim (preferably 250gb) with a game or 2 (tekken 6, little big planet, ratchet & clank, wipeout. anything like that. none of the involved games, more arcade style), 2 controllers and the media remote control. Preferably pay with paypal as I have a fair bit of credit in there that I don't want to pay to get out nor do I want to leave it there.
Cheers

Yet another oversight of mine, missed the importance of the blu-ray player.  :spank:

Good gamers have bigger brains (Original abstract the study looked at whether initial size of a specific area of the brain predicted acquisition and improvement in video games, so its not addressing whether you develop and acquire the skills as a consequence of playing video games more frequently).

Some bigger parts of the brain. Doesn't say if other parts are smaller.

They no doubt have bigger bellies and asses too.

:agree: I was exceptionally tardy in my choice of words there, apologies.

Thoroughly enjoyed Bioshock II.

The Bioshock games are some of the most beautiful and atmospheric around imo and good fun shooters too.

Never played Bioshock and will prob pick it up now its platinum.

I've just finished Dantes Inferno which I thought was great (and pretty fucked up in places). Just waiting for God of War 3 now which is likely to be the reason to own a PS3.

Anyone played Alien Versus Predator on the 360? I had it pre-ordered but the reviews/reception it got were very poor so I canned it.

I'm off work after my knee op so I just picked up bayonetta, brutal legend and darksiders after finally completing AC2 yesterday. Has left 4 dead 2 left over from Christmas, but was not very impressed.

Utter heresy not liking the utterly ace L4D2, you might as well donate your console / PC to charity  >:(

Bayonetta is bonkers - I didn't get on with that.

Close to finishing Darksiders now. I thought this was a great game although the combat is a little basic and the bosses fights disappointingly easy.

Fiend - Our censored version of L4D2 is only fit for the bin.

I must revisit Bayonetta now I've got a better screen. Agreed looks bonkers.

I'm still nuke hunting on MW2 - got 4 or 5 so far.

I've just bought MW2. There's definitely a steep learning curve to it when playing on live. It seems like newbie's get the added disadvantage of having less tools at their disposal to start with just to make it even steeper  :great:

PM if anyone fancies a few Multiplayer games.
