I know nothing about weight lifting and never watch it. Half way through this and really enjoying it.  :strongbench:

Great editing - Arnie, Travolta and Cruise bit is very sharp.

Some of you have already seen this, but I thought I might as well post it here. It's a short wildlife film I helped my brother with this summer. It's been interesting trying to get an audience, especially compared to making climbing films. If I film someone climbing an 8B and bash together a quick vid it gets 2000 views pretty easily...

...With this film it was 30 days of filming on location, plus months of research, planning and editing. I know I'm biased, but I think what my brother has created is miles better than any of my climbing vids, but despite lots of social media sharing, it's still struggling to get near 1000 views. I thought climbing was niche, maybe wildlife documentary shorts are even more so! Or perhaps we're posting it in the wrong places. Anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers, that would be much appreciated!

My brother is trying to get into the wildlife filmmaking industry. There are so many thousand short films released on vimeo every day, it seems it's an uphill struggle trying to get noticed. Vimeo staff pick would be the dream, but in the vimeo world that's like winning the lottery.

We had a guy on an IRATA course a few years back. He wanted to be a wildlife cameraman and was doing it to improve his CV. He won the HD video category of the BWP Awards (I don't think it's that competitive) and last time I saw him was on Springwatch. Moving to Bristol seems to be the crucial beta.

Nice. Good to hear of success stories. Yep, the Bristol move is done. Too late to enter the BWP Awards this year - he's going for various other festival comps though. Seems like an expensive business entering festivals - up to £50 a pop - but a win or even a screening at one of the big ones would be amazing. Looking at vimeo there actually seem to be very few macro films which combine narrative with quality photography, so hopefully he's in with a shout.

Quality that, I take it he's young and its a student film?

And he's emailed National Trust, National Park, every production company in Bristol etc...?

Does he want 'hits' or for it to be seen by some relevant people?

Its a great calling card anyway. In my experience, even with such a brilliant film on his show-reel he will probably still have to start as a runner/ assistant for a Production company. No big deal, he'll get there.

Glad you like it. Yes, it's his final project for a filmmaking MA. He's not that young but still under 30 - making a career change from architecture, hates the office lifestyle. He's in the process of emailing round and trying to make some contacts/get a foot in the door. He's well aware the jobs start small and often unpaid.

Not sure if he's tried National Park or National Trust. Will suggest it to him.

Thanks!
