With regards to the vandalism at Shipley Glen as reported by the BMC at http://www.thebmc.co.uk/news_det.asp?item_id=9001. “Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, English Nature can, in certain circumstances, take action to prevent damage to a site by those who own the land or who have a legal interest in it. In this instance, however, the damage has been effected by "third parties" who have no legal interest in the land. To stop this, the only option is for English Nature to ask the Secretary of State for a Nature Conservation Order under Section 29 of the 1981 Act. If such an Order is granted, anyone whose actions harm the wildlife interest of a site can be prosecuted.
