Bean Downs is ok for spurt routes but i'm sure that the only bouldering is the esoteric gollums cave and some other seaside venue..............................possible best to have rest or go to Undercover Rock.

BTW I'm from Lancashire too but still know choss when I see it ;)

listen to webbo - or Dartmoor's only an hour and a half away if you've plenty of skin to spare.

The gorge is about half an hour's walk from town centre.  Follow the river.  From what I've read about what you've said about your climbing, I'd sack off Gollum's Cave.  The bouldering round Bristol is either dingy steep eliminates, indoors, not very extensive, or is easy and traversy - i.e. retro 80s old school bouldering.  So I'd bring your lycra and bad hair to fit in, and I'd either go for a potter at the bottom of Sea Walls because it's nice and grassy (and there's some good rough but slightly conditionsy harder stuff - bring skin it'll be fine at the moment) and your folks can walk around a bit there, or bring a harness and let me know when you're coming, or go to the bog wall (the steep slabby walls of a toilet building beneath Main Wall).  There is some fun short slabby soloing on the exhibition and fir tree slabs nearby too.

I'm not saying it's good but it's classic fun and everyone who's ever climbed in Bristol has been on it so when you get back home if anyone asks did you climb on the bog you can say yes or if you tell them you climbed on the toilet block they'll know what you're on about.  And that's the important thing.  I mean even if you found some revolutionary new awesome bouldering venue in Bristol, if you told your mates about it they won't have heard of it and probably wouldn't believe you.

P.S.  How old's your sister?

because that doesn't depend on how the tide flows. i don't know the difference between up- and downstream.

I must admit I've climbed in the gorge several times and I haven't a fucking clue which way the river runs. Starboard?

Port. i know which way it runs, i.e south to north, but which way is downstream, do you go towards the mouth, or away from it? i just have no idea whatsoever  :?

wintourborn down is, in my humbel opinion, the best bouldering area near bristol. its in the avon section of the avon and cheddar guide, the "routes" are all about 7 meters with dodgy top outs, so be carefull, or be a boulderer and jump off after the hard bit. its sandstone, near a river and is pretty idilic. just keep a low profile because you can be seen from near by (and very expensive) houses, and we dont want acsess problems do we :) the traverse of the whole crag is pretty desprate, and im not sure if its been done yet, although some have come very close so i suspect it has.

i did a sweet eliminate, it starts on two big pockets from a sitstart and goes to an incut jug and then the hold marked f1, before traversing down a crack to a wobble block.
its called "bristoleans are sissys" and it gets V12
