not wishing to relegate the important news item of boulderers also doing other things (routes, bow hunting, computer hacking, badminton) i've just clocked this on planetextreeemetan.com:

http://www.planetfear.com/news_detail.asp?n_id=5442

enforced parking fees in the peak. whatever.

:x

If there was some sensible scale to the charges it wouldn't be so bad.

"what will happen to good relations between public and Rangers?"

Last time I saw a ranger he was threatening to call the police on me, the time before that one was chasing me down the Limb Valley screaming at me. (both mountain bike related).

The only other time I've spoken to one he was trying to boot me off a field for picking mushies.

I've heard of full-on fights with rangers too over mountain biking.

parking fees dodged by 'ten-percent' of users. Do they really think that its worth paying traffic wardens to recoup this?
Especially when you factor the cost of continually having to dig the araldite out of the machines weekly. And the lost revenue whilst they're bust.

all that'll happen is the non-payers if forced will find more "imaginative" ways of parking for free say on those laybys by curbar. if they want to discourage unnecessary car use in the peak park they should lay on some decent and usable park n ride schemes or summert, instead of trying to penalise the people who wanna come in and enjoy the area, put money into local business etc.

And what exactly do you get for your money? lets either see someone there ensuring your car doesn't get broken into, and making sure crouds of chavs don't turn up and start carving their names into everything, chucking rocks off the crags etc, or some info saying exactly what the fees are paying for so we can be sure its not lining any councilors pockets on the sly.

Be careful, I've been led to believe that there is a hidden camera at the Curbar Gap car park.

a decent bus service to stanage/burbage bridge from hathersage would help, i can't drive yet, nd it's the only way to get there at the moment. when i can drive i will drive there, and probably will have to pay.
