VW Golf TDi
August 12, 2005, 02:21:48 pm
Ok, the time has come to part with my trusty Golf....

Why?

1. Due to career change I'm skint (but happy).
2. I'm no longer (and don't plan to be) commuting.
3. I hardly ever carry more than 2 people.
4. Now I'm back into mountain biking big-style, I'm keen to have something that can lug a muddy bike around easily.....so I'm buying a van!

Anyway, Here's the spec:

Golf GT TDi PD 130

:: Approx 58k miles.
:: 1 year's MOT
:: No Tax but will put 6 months on or give you the cash.
:: 18 inch alloys, Audi A8 style - one has slight scuff.
:: Goodyear Eagle tyres - they rock.
:: Lowered and upgraded suspension (Spax I think) with adjustable front damping.
:: Winter pack (heated seats, heated washer nozzles, crappy switchable traction control)
:: Full leather interior.
:: Revo'd engine management system giving around 180 bhp and 250 ft/lbs - pretty damn quick. (can be un-revoed though you'd be crazy to want to). Chugs along at under 3k rpm @ 100mph - very nice engine.
:: Single CD stereo, upgraded from OEM.
:: Top of the range Clifford alarm including anti-hijack (handy for if somebody breaks into your house for the keys)

£ 9000.00

It's going in the Trader next week so if interested be quick off the mark, preferably tomorrow coz then I'll save advertising costs!

(better pic to follow - just snapped this one off and the colour is a bit weird)

Clm wants a new Golf, but I think his budget is nearer £900 rather than £9000,  :(

Shame, nice motor Bubba.

Probably a Citroen Berlingo - you can pick up a low-miles 02 reg one for about 5k. Drove one today and they're quite nice and will fit 2 mtb's and kit in the back.

Was tempted by something Transit sized but insurance would be a pain, and those within budget would be dog-slow.

Does it have fully removable seats? The removable seats in the espace are a major bonus, as you can fit tons of stuff in with the seats out, but we managed to fit 4 people, 4 mountain bikes, camping gear and climbing kit for the weekend in it with two of the seats in it. And it cruised over the Lecht in fine style.

Nah, 'tis the van version so only a 2 seater - back is all cargo. Not bothered about 4 seats because I rarely carry more than me and Sel anyway.

I'll miss the Golf's engine though :(

As good as - got £8850 for it which is sound but considering I'd spent £2500 on extras and only had it a year, I still lost out - but that's cars I guess.

Paid for (but not picked up yet) an '02 Berlingo van (2.0 HDi) with 31k miles on it  for £5k which is a pretty good price. They are ex British Gas so I'll need to strip out all the racking from the back but they drive pretty nice.

has it still got the big flame logo thing on the side? maybe you could moonlight as a meter reader.

'Fraid they've removed all the lettering...though you can still see some of it on the back.

All those lost oppurtunities <sigh>:  I could just front up at peoples houses shouting "I smell gas!" and run in and nick their telly or give their beef curtains a squeeze *  :lol:

* at last I get to quote MC Pitman!

I hope you will do the right thing and at least put a padlock on the back - no van is really complete without one. You'll also need to tie some old blue nylon rope around the bumper, get an old manky "help a halam child" bowtie to stick on the grill, and stick some of that self-adhesive reflective window tinting stuff on the back windows, making sure its all creased and full of bubbles.

:lol:

It's got some weird blue tinted shit on the windows but no creases I'm afraid.

It's also got a handy flouro strip light in the cabin and two mystery aerials on the roof - I may be able to tap in to secret gas-board communications :evil:

I could take you to a car park in Leicester where they keep all those spare BG vans - there's about 2 hundred of them, all with their keys in, and all waiting to be knicked - the local knackers throw stones at them from an adjacent railway embankment - look out for dents on the roof.......

Roof is dent-free :lol:

I'm surprised that they retire vehicles so soon - 31k miles is brand new in my book.

The work van I've been driving recently has 33K on the clock and is 9 months old. Its been ragged to fuck.
 Hopefully BG techs don't have the same 'right thats's done, lets try to get back for some bouldrin/ last orders scene' as us though..

Yeah, that's what I'm counting on - when you see them they have a cab bristling with complex looking gadgetery and I think they all work local so like you say, I'll reckon there's a lot less of the white-van thrashing mentality going down.
