The world's best traditional climber tag was bestowed by an american mag in their first awards ceremony. If you're not reading the american mags too you're not really taking this seriously. And I could have easily identified any of these before I ever met them.

If you didn't spend your adolescence learning the captions to The Power of climbing its no surprise you're struggling now. C'mon, without looking, how many steps on the cragX ladder?

According to on the edge Dave Mcleod is the worlds best trad climber.however in another later issue Stevie Haston says he is.So is the worlds best trad climber some sort of alien being that transmogifys to various countrys to climb their hardest routes while managing to fail on classic testpieces

What have any of them done abroad? I thought OTE named MacLeod the best all-rounder? Haston topropes at Dorys he's a fuckin embarrassment. Of course the real answer is Dean Potter, though he hasn't done much on grit. Or shale.

There was a time when he'd fail to follow grit hvs,then walk off and come back to say he'd just soloed several e3/e5's.He reckoned to have soloed All Quiet on sight and the roof above Great Western before it became Desroys Grand Illsion.
At that time late 70s in the peak. He was obviously a strong/ talented climber but no-one ever saw him doing anything.

Also in those days Mick Fowler /Gerldine Taylor lived in sheffield and used to have a party most saturday nights.Stevie would spend the night bouldering round the flat in his long underware.While everybody else was consuming large quanties of alcohol/drugs.
