The Big, very Big roof!
March 11, 2003, 12:54:24 pm
There is one in darkest Yorkshire, one that has not been climbed, one that is 30 ' long, one that from the back wall to the lip is a good 6'.

Will it yield any stunning problems?
Will the crack that splits it prove to be another Rays roof?
Or will it tun out to be choss?

We will see tomorow evening.

You Yorkshire bastards with yer new crags lying about everywhere - it's not fair!!!

I trust the piccies will be going onto yg.com, or is it a closely guarded secret?

Some local lad at The Slipstones (revenge for Peaks   ) was telling me about some more or less untouched stuff:
- Facing out from the crag, look directly out over moors - stuff is on the moor near a small quarried secion you can see, about 2 valleys over.

Any idea what all that is?

Could be Brown Beck crag. worth a visit.

If not there is some other stuff further up, looks smallish.

It's odd that no ones done it, as you can see it from the road and it has a public footpath running right under it.

FH, can you please go back to posting on rocktalk - this forum isn't for tedious, bitter muppets like you.

You'll have to wait and see about the Very Very Big roof, good or choss, as jon has to negociate road works in York!

So we're off to Bat Butress at Brimham to tick the elusive Riddler (V4).

Well, I have to negotiate a full day in front of the pc, under the harsh glare of the office striplights (I can just hear the violins starting up....)

Have a lovely day out bouldering, you barstewards !

Your "very big roof" sounds a bit pokey if you ask me. I know of a roof in yorkshire thats about 12 foot high, 14 foot deep and about 100ft long, unclimbed. Now thats what i call a big roof.

Yep, it's a load of crap.  It has some of the worst unclimbed roof problems I've ever seen.  You're better off at Stinton Moor, or whatever it's called.

It looks a log better from the front but I must admit after FH's hype I was expecting something a bit more extensive!!

Apparently this new esoteric venue has seen diffrent people visiting it every evening for the last week. It is covered in chalk & tick marks.

5 minutes walk further on nearly in Whitehouses is another fine boulder. With 3 or 4 reasonable problems of about V1/2.

I suppose this is why some people keep their new discoveries secret? I read ages ago that Andy Jack had his own "secret" bouldering area up in Yorkshire - probably known about by now but if I found a really top notch crag then I'd probabaly not put it online.
